Eidos focusing on sequels right now

Eidos may have only just been bought out by Square Enix, but the company is still staying true to its core franchises. Perhaps too true in fact, as Eidos' Ian Livingstone pretty much confirmed new titles in all of the main franchises are in development.

In a chat to GamingIndians the Eidos President confirmed that there were a number of new titles in development for Eidos, some of which we knew about and some of which we didn't.

The most exciting news for us (well, me) was that a new Hitman game is being developed by IO Interactive, original creators of the series and the developer behind Kane and Lynch. In fact, speaking of that troublesome duo, a new Kane and Lynch game is also in the works.

On top of that, Livingstone makes mention of a new Tomb Raider game and promises that it'll help to launch the series back to previous heights. Sounds familiar...

"The next Tomb Raider, I think, will surprise a lot of people and reinvigorate the franchise. There are some remarkable things we're doing in the next Tomb Raider to make you say, "Oh Lara, I love you so much!" [like the picture opposite? - Ed.]

Elsewhere within Eidos we know that the Montreal studio is currently working on Deus Ex 3 and that there's a secret project in development that is almost definitely going to be Thief 4.

With so many quality titles getting sequels, plus Kane and Lynch, Eidos could be the studio to keep an eye on in the future assuming development goes well. What are the chances of that? Let us know your thoughts in the forums.

As much as too many sequals make baby Jesus cry, Deus Ex 3, new Hitman and Thief 4 make me most happy.

Actually, it is officially thief 4. http://eidosmontreal.com/en/games.html

Thief 4 is really happening, everyone do a happy dance and then I can sneak around in the shadows stealing stuff.

Not that excited for thief 4, consoles and the mainstrema audience will propably kill any depth it would have had. Same with Deus ex 3.

weee!! A new Hitman!

Diablo 3 or Hitman... Hmmmm Cruel doubt... Good thing I can grab them both :D

Thief and Deus Ex too? hmm this must be heavens!

Ooo wait... Kane and Lynch too? Dang... i knew this shouldn't all good news... Can't they focus on REAL games?

I hope Thief 4 has the atmosphere of the first 2 games, is more difficult than Deadly Shadows, and brings back the rope arrow to replace the climbing gloves which made the game too easy. And after seeing the Thief 4 logo, I hope they change that too, cos Thi4f is a bit smug and self satisfying. But that aside I can't wait to play it.

Bring back Warzone 2100!*

*I know it was developed by Pumpkin, but it was published by Eidos.

Woohoo more sequals. Recycling is good but not in gaming.

If they are quality titles and it keeps them afloat to make more original material in the future, go for it. Way too many dev companies have gone out of business in the last 10 years.

Been looking forward to DX 3 for sometime now (8 years)... The concept art looks quite nice. Echoing other comments plz Eidos don't dumb it down for the console crowds (just remember DX 2 = fail)...
