Gran Turismo 5 release date announced

Gran Turismo 5 release date announced

Sony has finally nailed down a firm release date for Gran Turismo 5: November 2nd.

As part of Sony's E3 2010 press conference Gran Turismo 5's release date has been officially nailed down after a steady string of delays and disappointments.

PlayStation 3 racing fans can now look forward to GT5's official release on 2nd November, 2010. According to Sony, Gran Turismo 5 will fully support 3D gaming, along with a raft of other new PlayStation 3 titles.

Polyphony Digital's Kazunori Yamauchi was on hand at the E3 2010 conferences to lend his support to the announcement, as this isn't the first time that Sony has cited an official release date for GT5. At the Tokyo Game Show last year Sony promised the game would be out in March 2010, but had to rescind on that promise shortly afterwards.

The long-awaited Gran Turismo 5 has been subject to frequent delays, despite the fact that Kazunori Yamauchi has repeatedly claimed the game is close to completion. The setbacks have been chalked up to Polyphony Digital's perfectionism.

That said, GT5 hasn't exactly shied away from the public eye - it was perfectly playable as early as GamesCom 2009 and Sony has even released a scaled down version of the full game as a free download, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

Neither Sony nor Polyphony Digital have commented on rumours that the series may soon migrate to the PC, which some have speculated as the reason for delays.

Do you believe GT5 is really nearly here? Let us know your thoughts in the forums.

Forever.

That's what it looks like, but then again so did GT4.

I'll say in 1-3 years? near the end of the PS3's life cycle.

The lastest word has Sony planning for an October (2010) release. I think the reason it was pushed back was because of the 3D TV stuff.

then youve clearly not played Prologue, yes it really does look that nice, and as soon as I can divise a way of ripping my replays into avi format you'll see just how it should be driven as well ;)

Do the cars handle any better than they used to? I always found the cars in GT3/4 handled like they were going through gravy, and once they started sliding properly, sheet ice.

My car doesn't do this in real life, I know that much.

it will do if you are doing 140, as an insane petrol head i can atest to GT5's handling being great,

on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being rediculously poor and 10 being GTR2 id class GT5 as a solid 8 when set to PRO mode, standard mode I've no idea

ACTUAL O M F G !

edit: i just remembered that all cars and cash gained in GT5P will be carried over, I better get racing, come Nov i'm going to be buying a lot of new cars :D

I must say i was worried that after all this time it was never going to live up to the hype. Luckily from those pics and the vid it looks amazing.

So ive got till november to get a racing cockpit built hmmm, Ive got all the materials, the G25, just need to work out a monitor setup. Does anybody know if a 3 screen setup can be achieved with only 1 PS3?
Cerberus90 16th June 2010, 10:37 Quote
Does look good.

But you know what, I'm nowhere near as bothered about it as I was last year. The wait has caused most of my interest to be lost in it, and with so many games these days having loads of hype before release and then being total garbage.

Depending on how much the PS3 is when GT5 is finally released will 100% determine whether I buy it or not, because that will be the only game that I would use the PS3 for. So, also, GT5 will have to be extremely good to warrant me spending my money for one game.

Oh and the number of TVRs in the game will also sway my decision, :D

Nope, no 3 screens but what do you need that for with 3D and head tracking, good excuse for a new TV if I ever needed one.

as long as the cars drive/handle well itll be a great game and i hope it has great modification options, like forza3 has at the mo or better.

think ive gotten lazy with the rewind button on forza

damn im excited and its still months away
Unicorn 16th June 2010, 12:46 Quote
SO I'm guessing that with 3D on release it's also going to be a full 1080 game?

I'm sold but I won't be buying a PS3 until it's out, purely because as someone has already said, it's the only game I'd play on the PS3. Everything else that I'll ever want to play can be had for 360 or PC.

Didn't this game have a release date which was later cancelled and pushed back. I swear this thing has been in development for half a decade now. Duke Nukem Forever of racing games >.>

I guess it will come out eventualy, but while I loved GT1 and 2, I didn't feel the same about 3 and 4. Basicaly those were still the same games with better graphics and a changed track and car choice. I think the AI was the same in GT 1 and GT 4..... Same for collision detection....

I really hope this will be a great game, but I think Polyphony will go down the BILLION POLYGONS for each car look OMFG awesome route instead of adressing the flaws in the core gameplay which have existed for 15+ years now

Quoting from one of the articles in the links in this thread......" It begs the question then, are racing simulations of that depth and quality of interest to PC players, or are the better played with a controller than a keyboard?"............ I'm new to racing sims but..... first thing I learned was that you truly need a steering wheel to take advantage and really have fun with these games. If they release a pc version and you can only use your keyboard..... nutz to that. Grid failed because of this. Couldn't get it to work with my Thrustmaster. Good thing they still give out demos so I didn't waste my money to find out It would be no fun for me.

* Polyphony Digital is working on reducing load times and is still tweaking graphics ahead of the November release date.
* The game has nearly filled all of the space available on Blu-Ray disc.
* You’ll have the option to synchronize the game’s time of day with the track’s current local time.
* The crowds will be dynamic, so there will be more tents, cars, and motorhomes at longer races.
* Yamauchi admits his team may have “actually gone too far in modeling some of this detail” and suggested it might be “more suited to the next generation of PlayStation.”
* Both high and low-beam headlights will be included, so you can flash slower cars as you’re about to pass them (how awesome will this be during the 24 hour races!?!). All lights will illuminate dirt, smoke, or other debris in the air.
* NASCAR insisted that all of their series’ cars be playable on all circuits in the game.
* It was previously mentioned that only 9 NASCAR cars will be included, but this was incorrect. There are simply 9 cars in the E3 2010 demo, but “many more” are coming.
* With the exception of profanity, all of the Nurburgring’s graffiti has been re-created, just as it is in real life. According to Kotaku, they will attempt to keep the graffiti up-to-date before the game is shipped.
* Players will be able to maintain an online profile to share and watch friend’s progress and statistics.
* All cars (including standard models) will accumulate dirt and will have functional horns.
* All cars will have functioning reverse lights.
* More information will be revealed at Gamescom in Germany on August 18-22.
* More Formula 1 teams will bring their cars to the game, in addition to Ferrari.
* “While racing the 24 hours of Nurburgring, you can smell people’s barbecues — we couldn’t recreate that.” — Kazunori Yamauchi
# Each individual circuit can take as long as two and a half years to build.
# The new Photo Travel mode – where you take a car to a picturesque location other than a race track – now allows you to virtually walk around the environment to help you get the best angle.
# Online community features include a “BBS, personal logs, mail, and something called My Lounge”. You will be able to monitor your friend’s progress, set up private races with them, and spectate on live online races that are already underway from any camera angle, while focusing on any player’s car that you want.
# The combination of 3D visuals and head-tracking with the PS Eye was described as “astonishing”.

WEATHER AND TRACK EDITOR CONFIRMED
Quote:
Gran Turismo 5 will offer gamers an experience more rich, more in-depth and more exciting than they might expect – even from a series as closely identified with innovation and invention as Gran Turismo. Not only will Gran Turismo 5 deliver an even more comprehensive set of cars and courses than gamers saw with previous iterations, it will also feature new game-enhacing graphical effects such as damage, night racing and weather.
These innovations are twinned with the option to join millions of like-minded individuals globally within the Gran Turismo community and to find a driving experience to suit, whether that is taking on the Top Gear test track, chucking cars around stunt arenas, go-karting, creating and sharing your own track or intense head-to-head races. Who, where and what to drive is completely down to the individual.
This time around Gran Turismo is likely not just to be the definitive driving experience but a definitive gaming experience full stop.
