Gran Turismo 5 release date announced

Sony has finally nailed down a firm release date for Gran Turismo 5: November 2nd.

As part of Sony's E3 2010 press conference Gran Turismo 5's release date has been officially nailed down after a steady string of delays and disappointments.

PlayStation 3 racing fans can now look forward to GT5's official release on 2nd November, 2010. According to Sony, Gran Turismo 5 will fully support 3D gaming, along with a raft of other new PlayStation 3 titles.

Polyphony Digital's Kazunori Yamauchi was on hand at the E3 2010 conferences to lend his support to the announcement, as this isn't the first time that Sony has cited an official release date for GT5. At the Tokyo Game Show last year Sony promised the game would be out in March 2010, but had to rescind on that promise shortly afterwards.

The long-awaited Gran Turismo 5 has been subject to frequent delays, despite the fact that Kazunori Yamauchi has repeatedly claimed the game is close to completion. The setbacks have been chalked up to Polyphony Digital's perfectionism.

That said, GT5 hasn't exactly shied away from the public eye - it was perfectly playable as early as GamesCom 2009 and Sony has even released a scaled down version of the full game as a free download, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue.

Neither Sony nor Polyphony Digital have commented on rumours that the series may soon migrate to the PC, which some have speculated as the reason for delays.

I'll say in 1-3 years? near the end of the PS3's life cycle.

The lastest word has Sony planning for an October (2010) release. I think the reason it was pushed back was because of the 3D TV stuff.

I heard october as well, I'm not overly fussed its taken this long to complete, yeah im looking forward to it but Ive other games to keep me occupied whilst i wait patienctly :)

gf got me a ps3 and ps2 for my bday last month and im playing gt2+3 atm and have gt4 on the shelf waiting to be played again aswell. got bored of forza3, the higher rank races are hard to get back into after taking a few weeks break. playing colin mcrea dirt at the mo and cant wait to see the WRC on GT5

I just hope it looks like that. I've comt to learn never to judge a games graphics on the early trailers or be dissapointed.

then youve clearly not played Prologue, yes it really does look that nice, and as soon as I can divise a way of ripping my replays into avi format you'll see just how it should be driven as well ;)

Actually i have although maby my mates 720p 40" TV had something to do with it i didn't think it looked as impressive as most parts of that trailer.

Do the cars handle any better than they used to? I always found the cars in GT3/4 handled like they were going through gravy, and once they started sliding properly, sheet ice.

My car doesn't do this in real life, I know that much.

it will do if you are doing 140, as an insane petrol head i can atest to GT5's handling being great,

on a scale of 1 to 10 with 1 being rediculously poor and 10 being GTR2 id class GT5 as a solid 8 when set to PRO mode, standard mode I've no idea

I must say i was worried that after all this time it was never going to live up to the hype. Luckily from those pics and the vid it looks amazing.

So ive got till november to get a racing cockpit built hmmm, Ive got all the materials, the G25, just need to work out a monitor setup. Does anybody know if a 3 screen setup can be achieved with only 1 PS3?

Does look good.

But you know what, I'm nowhere near as bothered about it as I was last year. The wait has caused most of my interest to be lost in it, and with so many games these days having loads of hype before release and then being total garbage.

Depending on how much the PS3 is when GT5 is finally released will 100% determine whether I buy it or not, because that will be the only game that I would use the PS3 for. So, also, GT5 will have to be extremely good to warrant me spending my money for one game.

Oh and the number of TVRs in the game will also sway my decision, :D

Nope, no 3 screens but what do you need that for with 3D and head tracking, good excuse for a new TV if I ever needed one.

as long as the cars drive/handle well itll be a great game and i hope it has great modification options, like forza3 has at the mo or better.

SO I'm guessing that with 3D on release it's also going to be a full 1080 game?

I'm sold but I won't be buying a PS3 until it's out, purely because as someone has already said, it's the only game I'd play on the PS3. Everything else that I'll ever want to play can be had for 360 or PC.

Didn't this game have a release date which was later cancelled and pushed back. I swear this thing has been in development for half a decade now. Duke Nukem Forever of racing games >.>

I guess it will come out eventualy, but while I loved GT1 and 2, I didn't feel the same about 3 and 4. Basicaly those were still the same games with better graphics and a changed track and car choice. I think the AI was the same in GT 1 and GT 4..... Same for collision detection....

I really hope this will be a great game, but I think Polyphony will go down the BILLION POLYGONS for each car look OMFG awesome route instead of adressing the flaws in the core gameplay which have existed for 15+ years now

unfortionatly i doubt they will do that, this is sony's flagship game and its bloody good! g25 support out of the box is awesome, even the clutch works beutifully.

HUH? Your one person, 5 million bought a darn demo of Gt5 called PROLOGUE, there are really NO racers like Gran turismo. People care because it has 1000 cars, and will be polished to near perfection with amazing visuals.
