Gran Turismo 5 delayed again

Sony has once again delayed the release of Gran Turismo 5 on PS3, which was set for a March release in Japan.

Sony has enraged and bewildered fans again by announcing yet another delay in the release of console-favourite race, Gran Turismo 5 for the PlayStation 3.

Originally announced at E3 back in 2006, Gran Turismo 5 has been repeatedly delayed and shifted around on the PlayStation 3 platform which it is exclusive to.

GT5 was set to be released in March this year in Japan, with a western version following at some point after. Now, Sony has said it will not meet that deadline and does not know when the game will finally be released, citing "production issues" in a comment to Reuters.

The delay comes at a confusing time, as the game seemed to be shaping up well by the looks of the 2008 not-a-demo-honest Gran Turismo: Prologue and the more recent Academy Time Trial demo, which was released mid-December 2009. We had a quick play on the game at GamesCom 2009 too and it was looking mighty polished back then too.

Still, demand for the game is still high and the most recent demo has already been downloaded more than a million times, according to a recent announcement.

Oh FFS.

The developers of Forza 2 & 3 managed to bring a game (and a damn good one at that) to market in a decent time frame, why are the GT developers incapable of this.

They are retooling it to be the first PS3 3D enabled title. Oh and to include damage properly, oh and to have some decent AI for a change. One of these three things is true, it still won't be a fun game though so I'll stick with Forza for now.

Exactly what I was thinking as I read the article. They should rename this Gran Turismo Forever in honour of the Duke.

At least it would raise a smile :D

TBH the demo was kit rubbish in terms of gameplay, I had expected more and went all excited through downloading and playing but then the thrill went off. The looks are great, I'll give that but the gameplay... something should be made to it, so, better have a decent product than to none at all.

And +1 for Goty, you got that right.

Sony is running into the exact same problem with GT over and over again. They want to polish the game as good as it gets and therefore they delay it over and over again.

In contrast to the developers of Duke Nukem however, Sony got the money to delay and polish the game over and over again.

No surprises there.

For Sale: 60GB PS3, launch model. Some scratches, works perfect bought it for GT5, hasn't seen much use since I game on the PC more.

Thats what i did and its a great game you'll get a lot of play out of it but for all its delays and apparent lack of features compared to fm3 GT5 has still got the handling down, I get a lot more satisfaction doing a few good laps in gt academy in comparison as its as hard as driving should be, FM3 is far too arcadey even with full asissts off I can blast around in a 600bhp cliov6 no bother, its a bugger keeping a stock one in control in real life never mind one with that level of torque etc.

So I'm still eagerly awaiting GT5s appearance.

you should try GTR-EVO, it makes GT5 and Forza look like childrens games, still i am looking forward to GT5 just because polyphony digital are working on it, :)

Thing about GTR is it racing with racing cars, these are setup differently to road cars, I prefer the feel of GT5, though when I have cracked out the g25 for playstation I always dust off the PC and have a bash at my old faves like rally championship 2k and GTR.

I have read that this is only for the japan release. Over on GTPlanet it sounds like they are delaying the Japan release and are going to do a worldwide simultaneous release probably in summer or fall.

Whatever. I've been waiting for such a long time now a few more months isn't a big deal.

1000 cars. All with damage.
70+ tracks with Day/Night and Weather.
Head tracking
HD Youtube upload
etc.....

I think the wait will be well worth it.
