Foreword by Hugh Chappell
Many of you will be aware that bit-tech.net has shared office facilities in Ascot with TrustedReviews.com, an on-line publication founded by myself and Riyad Emeran in 2003. Last October, TrustedReviews was acquired by Time Warner/IPC Media and my tenure as majority owner and Managing Director came to an end.
With both bit-tech and TrustedReviews expanding it has become necessary for bit-tech to move to new premises.
Today, we have completed a move to a new facility within the Imperial College Campus on the other side of Ascot. Set in grounds of 260 acres, the new office provides more space and better facilities for our staff. Importantly this move will allow us to expand our operations.
Tim Smalley, who is currently attending the Intel Developer Forum in China followed by a business trip to Taiwan, is in the process of recruiting an additional Staff Writer to join the Ascot-based editorial team. This will enable bit-tech to boost our content output, in particular reviews. Myself, working full-time for bit-tech only now and Hiren Laxman will be developing our commercial operation further, a necessity to pay the bills and fund future growth.
Finally, we moved the website to an all-new hosting facility in Maidenhead during the weekend. The switchover to a brand new set of servers and infrastructure went very smoothly and I am very grateful to Jamie Cuthill and Adam Smith for their professionalism.
So, onwards and upwards and THANK YOU to the bit-tech community! Your continued support is very much appreciated.
The Next Level
By bit-tech Staff
Things have changed a lot over the years for bit-tech. What was once an obscenely purple website created by a close-knit British modding community and manned by a five man team of coders and writers has grown massively.
As it exists now, bit-tech is an independent and fully commercial online magazine catering to hardcore tech enthusiasts, gamers and modders. It’s run by a team of eight (soon to be nine) full-time staff consisting of writers, coders and sales staff. As we're sure you are aware – the look of the site itself has changed too. It’s not just purple now.
The hands at the wheel have changed too, with Bossman Responsibilities handed down from Koolvin, to Wil Harris to Tim Smalley. Each time, though it has been sad to watch others move on, bit-tech has emerged all the stronger for the change.
Today, comes another change as bit-tech settles into new offices for the first time in three years – but for the first time in facilities all to itself. Again, though it is sad to say goodbye to our friends at TrustedReviews (we're only a few miles down the road and will still maintain a close relationship with the team), we know that bit-tech will be stronger for the move.
The move to our new offices in Ascot, just to the west of London in the UK, is a big step for bit-tech – some of us have only ever worked for this company and most of the team were recruited directly from the community, but at least it's a big pool, with almost 37,000 registered members.
