Blizzard Entertainment has announced that it is getting into the dead-tree publishing business under the name Blizzard Publishing, starting with the release of new publications and out-of-print titles from the company's history.

Best known for its Diablo and Warcraft fantasy franchises and StarCraft sci-fi franchise, Blizzard's new publishing venture concentrates on the colourful world of Warcraft - as well as World of Warcraft, the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) set in the universe launched by a series of real-time strategy games. Following titles, though, will draw from the company's wider pantheon, it has claimed in its announcement of the launch.

'Great stories and inspiring artwork have always been at the heart of everything we do,' claimed Lydia Bottegoni, senior vice president of story and franchise development at Blizzard Entertainment, of her company's plans. 'The creation of Blizzard Publishing gives us new opportunities to celebrate the art and stories of our games with Blizzard gamers as well as fantasy and sci-fi fans around the world.'

The company's first releases, though, won't be new; instead, it is looking at republishing out-of-print titles from its history. The Blizzard Legends series will feature Warcraft: The Last Guardian, Warcraft: Lord of the Clans, and World of Warcraft: Rise of the Horde is its launch title; those who like something more visual will find reprinted copies of the Warcraft Legends: Volume One and Volume Two manga collections.

New books are in the works, Blizzard has promised, including a series of full-colour coffee table art books to launch with Art of Hearthstone and Cinematic Art of StarCraft next year, while its first new creation is the World of Warcraft Adult Colouring Book, which despite its name does not need to be sold on stores' top shelves under a plain cover.

Blizzard Publishing's titles are available now at book stores around the world or via the company's official web store priced at £8.99 each.
