Eidos Montreal has announced that upcoming augment-'em-up Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is to be delayed by six months, after originally scheduling the title for launch in February 2016.

The sequel to Deus Ex: Human Revolution, itself a reimagined follow-up to the classic original Deus Ex and less well remembered console sequel Deus Ex: Invisible War, Mankind Divided was announced back in April by Square Enix. The game soon drew criticism for the launch of a pre-order pyramid scheme, dubbed Augment your Pre-Order, which promised increasing levels of in-game 'rewards' - read: 'unlocked content' - the more pre-orders the company received, culminating in the promise to bring the launch date forward by four days.

While Augment Your Pre-Order was swiftly cancelled, the top-tier reward has now proven somewhat ironic: rather than launching four days early, the game has now been pushed back a full six months. 'As we are now playing through the game in full we can see that it will require more time in post-production for tuning, iterations and refinement to meet our hight standards,' wrote Eidos Montreal's David Anfossi of the delay in an announcement on the website. 'This game is a huge part of our lives, and we don't want to compromise on its quality.'

The delay pushes back the launch of the game to the 23rd of August 2016 across all platforms.
