Gran Turismo 5 delayed again

Gran Turismo 5 delayed again

Despite confirming a November 2010 release date, Sony has been forced to delay GT5 again.

Sony has confirmed that, despite strongly confirming a November 2010 release date earlier this year, Gran Turismo 5 will now be delayed again.

First announced in 2006, Gran Turismo 5 has been delayed and put back repeatedly by Sony, despite having been playable at shows like GamesCom and E3 for years.

Sony has confirmed that the delay will affect all territories and has pushed the date for Gran Turismo 5's release back from a firm November 3rd to a speculative 'Holiday season 2010'.

We are sorry to say that Gran Turismo 5 will not be available on the previously announced release date of November 3rd, but the game will be released before Christmas,” a spokesperson told MCV.

We sincerely apologise to GT fans for the delay, however creator Kazunori Yamauchi and the team at Polyphony Digital want to make certain they are creating a racing experience of the highest quality. We are confident that this ambitious game will exceed expectations when it launches later this year. We'll have more information for you in the near future.

Sony released a preview of the game as a paid-for demo in 2008, Gran Turismo: Prologue. Since then Gran Turismo 5 has only been seen at press events and tradeshows.

I'm starting to ponder on the capabilities of polyphony.

Your either making a good game from the start, or your making a crap game, then constantly adding bits to try and improve it.

Do they keep starting over form scratch every time they find a bug or something? Or is it soo big that every time they compile it, it takes a month? :D

I've completely lost interest in it now. Was really excited when it was first announced, then just got more and more bored. Definitely won't be buying a PS3 this year.

When is the PS4 going to be released? Are polyphony now converting it for that or something.

I played this at eurogamer...

I cant express in words how disappointed I am with this game, I'm a massive GT fan, and have been looking forward to it for so long, and.. well.. i just don't know what to say....

Forza 3 seems better in every way, and don't get me started on that 3D crap....
13eightyfour 13th October 2010, 18:15 Quote
tbh i knew it was never going to make the release date, it was just a hunch but with so many delays its become one of those games that i couldnt give a **** about until i can physically buy it.

After loving every other 'proper' GT game i cant help but feel this massive wait wont be worth it.
SMIFFYDUDE 13th October 2010, 18:17 Quote
Is anyone really that surprised?

Anywhy meh. I don't own ps3 or any console.

Come along now people, you can't have good Duke news and good GT news at the same time. You should know this by now

If this keeps getting delayed to the point that even Duke Nukem Forever comes out before, then that would just be the funniest thing to ever happen in this industry.

Aaahahahaha. I was pondering getting an Xbox 360 with Forza 3 or GT5 exactly one year ago.

Thankfully I went with Forza. I'm sure GT5 will be great, but the delays are beyond ridiculous now.

Don't own a ps3 so aint fussed. The games are basically the same with uprated graphics and new car models anyway. How will it be any better or worse then GT 3 A-spec? Short answer, it won't be.
Krikkit 13th October 2010, 19:31 Quote
Only with newer cars and hundreds of them, which is what a lot of folk want. :p

Personally I couldn't care if it's a revolution in driving games, I just want a pretty Gran Turismo game to come out this century. I wish they'd set a deadline and stick to it, instead of saying "Nov. 2nd" and bailing on us.

Grand Theft Auto 3 A-Spec?

Anyway, the physics will of course be better than a 9/10 year old game. And a game of the standard of Gran Turismo i.e not churned out year on year for a quick buck like Need for Speed, but a "when it's done" game that's made as good as it practically can be.
HourBeforeDawn 13th October 2010, 19:37 Quote
you I completely forgot about Grand Turismo, so many other good racing games have been coming out that I think they have pretty much lost their edge especially with all these delays. ~_~

Typo. But I can't see it being a massive jump forward. It will look damn pretty sure. And hey I like pretty. But pretty aint enough. Remains to be seen if the game is anything more than a pretty, overdue, update.

As pissed as I am I, unlike too many people here, still have faith in this game and polyphony digital
Kris 13th October 2010, 20:04 Quote
My theory why it's released: they've created a too detailed engine that is not running properly on the underpowered gfx chip in the PS3(looking at just the gfx part, the xbox360 has a more powerful and flexible chip).
anyway, not a console gamer, and if they keep on insisting on making 'exclusives' for consoles, i will never buy a console. :)

People who own consoles. People who simply enjoy games no matter what the platform. People who aren't stuck so far up their own arse that they can't see that there's decent gaming to be had away from the PC.

And me.

QFT.

I'm not suprised to see it delayed; it's been so long now that I doubt I'll really be all that concerned when it does finally hit shelves. I'll probably just rent it to say I've tried it and leave it at that.
robots 13th October 2010, 22:37 Quote
The shame.

It's a pity because this game would have looked amazing at one point, but by the time it is released it will just look run of the mill. The gameplay better live up to the expectations too or there's going to be a lot of very unhappy internet people.

The only thing I can add to this is if Sony is willing to alloy Polyphony to delay this game time and time again and basically give them a blank check on it, they must be reaaaly confident about it.

Argh. And I was talking to my manager today about it. We have ordered it both since last year. hahaha

At least New Vegas is coming out, and going to burn the PS3 until Xmas. Which I enjoyed more on the PS than on the PC.
Maybe because I was so comfy on the sofa, enjoying it on 60" TV (with surround at almost max vol, I have remote house), and no wife to pest me. I really enjoy the "after the divorce" life. hurray :D

At this rate DNF will be released before it. Think how preposterous that would have sounded 2 months ago.
xaser04 14th October 2010, 09:31 Quote
Ok what is really ridiculous about this is that there have been TWO Forza games developed an released in the time it has taken Polyophony to launch.... no.... work on GT5.

It can't even be argued that the Forza games are lacking in some way as this clearly isn't the case, both are excellent and full of content.

What are the people at Polyphony actually doing?

GT5 will have to be epic to not look like a dissapointment, good will simply not be good enough.
Phalanx 14th October 2010, 09:48 Quote
GT5, second only to DNF in terms of delays :)
Krikkit 14th October 2010, 10:34 Quote
The worst bit is that, although the delays are insulting and totally irritating, this game will sell like hotcakes.
Kris 14th October 2010, 10:50 Quote
Well hopefully they are doing what blizzard is doing, delaying the game if they feel it's not good enough. I guess we're all sick of the one year development cycle games that are pretty much buggy and horrible.
For example: nfs world, said to be developed over 2 years, but pretty much rubbish.
apb: same thing
etc, many other games i guess fit this description, but can't think of any off the top of my head.

Anyway, i think it's better if a developer releases a game after a long development cycle, doin their best to put out a high qualityproduct.

Even though i still believe console only games should disappear totally (as a pc gamer at least). Too many games are only on a specific console, making people who don't have the resources to buy into all platforms, miss out.

Anybody else see the connection of the move being released and this being delayed? Me thinks the lollipop is getting coded in.
Singularity 14th October 2010, 19:08 Quote
Judging by the constant delays, I'm guessing they're using Duke Nukem as the player model, so they're waiting for DNF to come out...

I thought the delay was due to the master disc just missing a production run in the blu-ray pressing factories? It shouldn't be delayed too long. Blame it on a run of Twilight blu-rays :)
Aragon Speed 15th October 2010, 06:15 Quote
Twilight Blu-Rays? Can they only be stamped after dark then? Do they have an indigo sheen? I do hope they don't let little points of light through them when you hold them up to the front room bulb.... ^^

LMAO, got nothing to do with any COD game, GT5 will sell regardless. Geez, COd fanboys. rumour is it is a last minute dealay due to the security firmware 3.50 sony released.

There not goona delay so close to launch with production already in full swing because of another game.
SNIPERMikeUK 16th October 2010, 17:21 Quote
Agreed the security firmware is highly likely, as for COD fanboys, yes it is overated but after the awful aproach to the 'medal of honor' reboot, it will only strengthen the games appeal more, BFBC2 is better in almost every way except COD single player is excellent....

I have put off buying a ps3 purely because i want gt5. Yes i am a sucker buti have not bee too disappointed with polyphony until this seemingly endless stream of delays.

When it does finally hit my cd tray i can tell you i want.

I want the option for different tyre manufacturers.
I want cloured Smoke tyres for in drift mode. (replays would look awesome)
I want realistic pit crews.
I want the ability to hire race mechanics should you feel uncomfortable setting up your car.
I want in game audio informing you of weather changes and competitors progress throughout the race.
I want Murray walker to be blurting out whilst i watch my replay of me hammering round the nuremburgring.
I want the ability to tune my in car radio during the le mans 24hr to listen to Radio 2 and Steve Wright's Sunday Love Songs.
I want to have a a car viewer in the garage so you can tour every footwell, glove compartment, bonnet and ski hatch in every car!!

Yes i am aware the Arial Atom doesnt have a ski hatch.
