Kinect UK release date announced

Microsoft has announced that the Kinect controller for Xbox 360s will arrive this November.

GamesCom 2010: As part of it's pre-GamesCom 2010 announcements, Microsoft has unveiled the official release date for the new Kinect controller for Xbox 360s.

Kinect will hit UK shelves on November 10th, 2010. Microsoft's original announcement originally contained an error saying that Kinect would be released on November 17th, but this has since been corrected.

Kinect is Microsoft's new motion-capture controller, previously codenamed as Natal, which uses cameras to record and interpret player movements without requiring them to hold wands or Wiimotes.

The Kinect controller has previously been priced at £129.99 in the UK - a price which many customers have baulked at, but which MS has strongly defended.

Kinect will also be available bundled with the new Xbox 360 Slim 4GB model (officially just called the Xbox 360 4GB) for £249.99 when it launches, though it can be used by older models.

Launch titles for Kinect include Kinect Adventures, Kinect Sports, Kinectimals and Kinect Joy Ride.

We checked out both the new console and the Kinect controller previously - check our Xbox 360 Slim review and our Microsoft Kinect impressions for more information. If you can't be bothered to do that then suffice it to say that Kinect didn't exactly blow our socks off.

Those launch titles are exactly what is stopping me from buying this on launch.
Time to step up your game a bit, Microsoft.

£130 isn't an impulse buy, particularly if it doesn't come with any good games and the controller has lag issues.

Yay, now we know when we can buy an "accessory" that costs almost as much as the console! Then we'll spend hours having fun waving our hands about in puzzlement and frustration. A week later, it can then be put in the cupboard where the Wii now sits.

It's fail, the only people who are vaguely interested are Wii owners.

I suspect that there will be a lot of second hand Wii's in CEX once this and the PS3 Move come out.

But once those gamers that got a Wii to go with their 360/PS3 upgrade and junk their Wii, then the market will bottom out.

Accessories that have come out a few years into the life cycle of a console never do well, and most people interested in casual games have a Wii and probably won't want to shell out for a new console to do the same thing that their Wii does.
