The trade price of the Wii has been lowered back to it's pre-hike price in the UK.
Nintendo has confirmed that it has returned the trade price for the Wii back to it's pre-hike price point in the UK and Ireland, with the new price going into effect on October 2nd.
Nintendo originally
raised the trade price of the Wii in the UK by £20 GBP "
due to the severe and continuing depreciation of the pound."
Don't expect the Wii to get much cheaper in the UK though - as the trade price is only the price at which the console is sold to retailers and the RRP may not be affected. In fact, a new Wii bundle which packages
Wii Sports and
Wii Sports Resort along with the new
MotionPlus is currently available for pre-order at around £189.99 GBP - £10
more than the original price - according to
GI.biz.
Other territories however are getting a 'proper' price drop, with Nintendo lowering the price of the Wii in the US and Japan as of the end of this week. The Wii will start to sell for $199 USD in America - a $50 USD discount on the previous RRP. In Japan the price cut kicks in on October 1st and will see 5000 Yen being shaved off the price in stores.
"
Our research shows there are 50 million Americans thinking about becoming gamers," said a Nintendo spokesperson. "
This more affordable price point and our vast array of new software mean many of them can now make the leap and find experiences that appeal to them, whatever their tastes or level of gaming experience."

£122 + VAT at 15% = £140
So *only* getting ripped off by a third then....
it's getting bundled in with the motionplus and wii sports resort soon, which isn't happening in America AFAIK. Also, US has sales tax too, but it varies per state so the MSRP never includes it. You can safely stick an extra ~15% on the US price to cover that.
People *always* forget that american prices are excl VAT. The price differences aren't actually that huge once you factor that in.
Yeah i know that (p.s highest sale tax in the us is 11.5%, average is 7) , but that doesn't change the calculation, as i took a MSRP, without tax, coveted it and then added tax, so we are still being ripped off :)
You can skirt sales tax by buying online from out of state retailers who provide you with free shipping.
Prime example would be Newegg 194.00 shipped. Only states taxed are California(Los Angeles County residents: 9.75% City of Pico Rivera residents: 10.75% All Other California residents 8.25%), New Jersey(7%), and Tennessee(7%).
