Epic working on UT3 360 mod support

Epic is still working hard on getting the Xbox 360 version of UT3 working.

Epic have been getting a lot of bad press lately, but one thing is for certain and that is that the Unreal developer certainly hasn't been neglecting the console market lately, as proved by the efforts being made to get Unreal Tournament 3 working on the Xbox 360.

Unreal Tournament 3 was released on PC late last year and the PlayStation 3 version followed soon after, but there's still no sight of the Xbox 360 port of the game - odd given that the game was said to be finished a long time ago.

The reason for the delay apparently is down to the mod system, which Epic is keen to get working on consoles as well as PCs. Mark Rein assured fans that the company is still working hard on the project though in a recent interview.

"We're still trying. We're working with Microsoft to try to figure out how to support it, but regardless of what happens, mods will play a part somewhere along the line. We'll make sure we get a fair share of mods working. We'll figure that out."

Mods have been a surprising success for PlayStation 3 gamers despite some of our concerns and it's good to see that Epic is trying to give the same experience to all platforms. It seems only fair - though you do have to ask where the Wii version is.

Are you planning on picking up a copy of Unreal Tournament 3 for the Xbox 360, or are you firmly attached to your PC? Let us know in the forums.

If they wait too much longer on this one they may well miss the boat.

Why would you wait for the 360 version when UT3 is now $30 on steam, wow!

Because you don't have a PC you want to game on but you do have an Xbox 360?

Didn't they use the excuse that the PS3 had mod support, so they wouldn't be doing split-screen?

If they do 360 mod support, wouldn't they have to do PS3 Split-screen?

Will it run on an X360?! I know the PS3 struggles to run it even at 720p.

You'd think so wouldn't you but as this is Epic i doubt they'd care. There excuse will be "but you've had it for a lot longer, what would you rather we had delayed the game?" which to an extent is a valid argument.

Quote shigllgetcha 24th April 2008, 13:48
didnt microsoft recently say they wouldnt be allowing mods on the 360 version to keep the integraty of the system, they said people will try and mess things up using mods, just because they can

That's strange. I have it on PS3 and it runs great. No fps hiccups whatsoever.

Next time, you might want to play the game first before criticizing it.

Some people are real retards. The PS3 version at 720p runs just as smooth as my top end gaming PC does with an 8800GTX running the game at hi-res 1920x1200. Yes, the resolutions are different, but the experience is just as good.

The PS3 experience is just as good for this game as a top end PC that costs several times the amount. The controls are obviously different, but as KB/M are also supported, its a mute point.

Im fed up of people slagging off one console version vs another, most probably when they havent even played the game.

The quote above is such an example - Jackass retards on the internet are alive and well... just like the guy who suggested you should buy it on steam when we are talking about the 360 version. Meh! Why are people so stupid?

The only way I could play UT3 on split-screen is if I was playing on a 50" or greater TV on atleast 1080i. Too much **** going on for me to play....heck, I have a tough time playing Warhawk on split-screen sometimes on my friend's 55" Bravia.....
Quote talladega 24th April 2008, 19:09
ya i agree ^^^ splitscreen sucks for shooters unless its a giant screen (50+).
Quote DougEdey 24th April 2008, 19:36
I didn't like the demo, the game felt butchered. I'll keep away on 360

agree, Epic is not getting a single penny from me unless they
1. sort out their interface
2. stop kissing console's arse
3. stop making pointless comments
4. stop being so ignorant, thinking they control the gaming industry

Oh!, but with their great engine!....................

The reason I brought up the steam version was because of the lead-in question, "Are you planning on picking up a copy of Unreal Tournament 3 for the Xbox 360, or are you firmly attached to your PC?"
I was pointing out that if you have a PC to run it there's no point in waiting for the 360 version, if for some absurd reason you were, due to it already being dirt cheap on PC.
Gosh some of you are touchy :(
Quote r4tch3t 25th April 2008, 10:49
I don't have a 360, nor am I getting one, I got the UT3 bundle on special for $40, converted it worked out about half the price of UT3 in the shop plus I got the other games too.

It good to see that they are working to get mod support on the 360 though. Mods play a large part in the UT games.

Hang on a minute... why must you assume I trolling?

At what point will PC users actually be allowed to suggest that consoles aren't as up-to-date as they once were? Will we have to wait another 3 years or something? I'm not trying to offend console users or anything... its just the way it is.

As far as I am aware UT3 was aimed primarily at PCs, seeing as how its based on the classic PC shooters bearing the same name. And I'm sure if you seen any benchmarks you'll know that older GPUs perform significantly worse than current gen GPUs due to the shader-heavy nature of UT3.

Again, NONE of this is meant to offend. I am NOT trying for some kind of childish smack-talk here.

I know that users of the Epic forums for UT3 reported frame-rate issues running some of the more shader intensive levels like dm_shangrila. Search for yourself if you like. Furthermore I seemed to get the impression that the X360 was slightly less powerful than the PS3. By that I'm not trying to disparage the X360, I just thought that was fact.

If you take the previous generation of consoles as an example, many cross-platform titles would give the PC release slightly better graphics. Now surely there will come a point in time where the same can be said of the current generation of consoles, i.e. where the gap in performance between the consoles and an average mid-high PC becomes wide enough to warrant two different configurations. I was genuinely just wondering if we had reached that point already, or if the X360 would still run the game as-is with no modifications.

I know console users will expect a certain minimum level of performance so I was just wondering if Epic will need to tone down the detail at all for it to run properly. I'm not trying to poke fun at console users or start some kind of e-penis contest.

Now I've gone into far too much detail and bored myself to death. Sorry to anyone who actually read this post!

not starting a fanboy argument but i think the 360 and ps3 have around the same processing power but the cpu in the PS3 is more complex so when its programed right it out preforms the 360 slightly
