Jack Thompson responds to EA's dismissal

Jack Thompson says that EA's response, if true, does not disappoint.

Earlier today, we reported that Electronic Arts had dismissed Jack Thompson's offer to help with its acquisition of rival publisher Take-Two. Just minutes ago, we were forwarded Jack Thompson's response to the brush off.

In the letter, which is addressed to Electronic Arts CEO John Riccitiello and the board of directors, Thompson said that "I have not yet received but have seen news reports of your Senior Manager Mariam Sughayer's communication to me regarding the above.

"Assuming the reports are accurate, since they don't emanate from the New York Times, please note:

I have in the last few days been contacted by a company with whom Take-Two does business. This company is now my client,
" he continued.

My client informs me that Take-Two has breached a substantial contract with it. It appears based upon what my client tells me that this is how Take-Two does business within the industry. This does not surprise me, as I have seen this same company up-close for a number of years. But it is surely gratifying to get corroboration of my observations, out of the blue, from a corporate entity which has been stiffed by Take-Two and which must take legal action, it seems, to get recompense. How sweet.

If you all at EA want to pursue a purchase of Take-Two without fully knowing what is “out there” in the form of liabilities, posed by my client and others, of your take-over target, you got right ahead. I’m sure EA’s shareholders will be impressed with your lack of “due diligence” exhibited first by your “don’t help us, Mr. Thompson” and now your anticipated “we don’t want to know about contractual liabilities of Take-Two” posture. Maybe the new corporate logo of EA should incorporate an ostrich. Here’s some help:

Your corporate approach to due diligence exhibits the type of circle-the-wagons acumen that is leading the video game industry to the federal regulation that ESA’s own leaked poll indicates 65% of Americans want.

Congratulations. Your response, which was anticipated, does not disappoint.

Regards, Jack Thompson
"

Jack's response doesn't disappoint either - the image made me spill my tea (thanks, Jack!). It'll be interesting to see how this story develops. Do you think Jack is barking up the right tree, or should EA continue with its attempts to purchase Take-Two? Let us know in the forums.

"EA is a strong supporter of creative freedom for game developers."

Taken out of the context of this story, that statement is most ironic.

EA's rep has just hugely increased in my books! Now for them to go for the final blow?
Down with jack thompson!

I am still surprised that there are people out there who would hire him... and with that response, how old is he? 5?

Is that a real reply from Jack Thompson? Doesn't look very official/Professional to me.
Quote Krikkit 6th March 2008, 16:01
EA: "No way girlfriend, I ain't takin' nothin' from you..."
Jacko: "Oh NO You Din't!"

He's a bitter, twisted, sad little man isn't he? Couldn't he have run a grammar check on that email before sending it out? Hardly a professional tone too. I think it's time for Jack to stop listening to himself and quit.

C'mon, this is Jack Thompson we're talking about here.
Quote Flibblebot 6th March 2008, 16:09
So basically, he's saying that he's only just taken on this client who want to sue Take Two, so presumably the legal process hasn't actually got underway yet.

And then he lambasts EA for not knowing something that hasn't happened yet?

That's an interesting stance to take, Jack. Time to get back in the comfy jacket with the sleeves that fasten up behind and go back to your lovely cell with the nice padded walls.

This could be seen from two sides:

1: He is just stupid, childish and.. strange.

2: He does this to get A LOT of publicity. (Not good, but he gets his name out for sure)

Serious question, how the hell does a quack like this get away with being such a scamming lawyer? Really, why does he have such a hissy fit over games? This guy is really mentally challenged, seems anyone can be a lawyer these days. He should be banned.
Quote TGImages 6th March 2008, 18:13

i think he's cold, we should give him his jacket with the double length sleeves so he can hug himself.

i've been amusing people at work with stories about him, they all think he's an idiot. personally i want to see how far he'll go. if games are so violent and cause people to go crazy and shoot other people, why has no one shot him? i'm still sane... well, as sane as you can get on bit-tech...

Video Games don't make me violent
Jack Thompson makes me violent

...the same for a few others round here too I suspect

..therefore using jack's own minority over majority idea means we should ban jack thompson from public exposure

I hesitate to make my first post about 'Smiling' Jack, but seriously, this guy is nuts. Unfortunately for us normal people, ill-informed parents will always support his cause against video games. Im nearly 30 yrs old, but I remember a moment in time when I was in my early teens that the pastor of the church called my mother because I left a book there. This particular book was written by Rose Estes, and it was a fantasy novel, one of the "Endless Quest" novels, similar to the "Choose Your Own Adventure" books that some of you may remember. The pastor was 'concerned' because the book had wizards and magic and thought it was evil. My mother actually asked me if I believed in the stuff I was reading!!! To give my mom some credit though, she would have never asked me about the book if not for the prompting from this preacher. At this point in my life I had already read the "Hobbit" and the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy. My mom already knew what my answer would be.

Every time I hear about Jack Thompson, I think about that preacher. Both are misinformed and are championing a cause that they know little about. Would a pastor today confront a parent because their child left a "Harry Potter" book at church? I think not. The bottom line is that parents need to be responsible and raise their children correctly so that they know right from wrong. Granted, this is not 100% effective, but it goes a long way in making sure your kids grow up to be respectable members of society.

Games, books, newspapers, the internet, movies, art, the evening news... they all depict scenes of violence. Since we are all exposed to at least one of these mediums as we grow up, by Jack Thompson's beliefs, we would all be uncontrollable psychopaths, roaming around wreaking havoc.

Sorry for making my first post such a long rant. I sincerely apologize.
