PS4 revealed in Sony teaser trailer

PS4 revealed in Sony teaser trailer

The Sony PlayStation 4 is to be revealed at E3.

Sony has shown a glimpse of what the PlayStation 4 (PS4) will look like via a new teaser trailer.

The video shows Sony's upcoming next-gen games console in a variety of blurred and obscure shots, revealing that, if nothing else, the console will be black... and square.

Also shown is a date for the full reveal, which will be 10th June 2013 at 6pm PDT (2am GMT), at an event during the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles.

The video gives little away about the design of the new console but does reveal what appears to be a similar size device to the PS3, with a similar overall form factor. It looks to be more angular in design though, with sharp lines in place of the smooth curves of the PS3.

Along with closeups of the previously revealed Dual Shock 4 controller and PS4 Eye, there are also images of the console's new '4' logo.

PS4 Specs
Already confirmed specs for the console include an AMD APU featuring an 8-core CPU and an 800MHz GPU capable of 1.843 TFLOPS, a Blu-ray drive and 8GB of ultra-fast DDR5 RAM.

It's a black bock... I predict the new xbox to be similarly black and box-like...

It's a black square with 4 on it somewhere. Damn, think I had a psychic dream about that.

Nice to see it finally arriving, means it's not so long before tight git here can wait for the slim version and save some cash. :)

I'm sure there will be other variants like with the other Playstations. Not that many colours they can make a console really, without making it look tacky as hell any way.

Black is the safe colour to opt for. Which leaves Grey and White. Silver looks awful, and every other colour is not generic enough. If you make a console bright purple, there will be a lot of people who won't buy it..same if you make it green, pink, orange ect.. (yes the GameCube was purple..I rest my case)

The Gamecube practically came out in every colour. It was a work of genius.

From a certain point of view.

It made it look like a toy, not what you really want in todays market. You want it to be sleek and stylish. You want it to fit into most peoples living-rooms without it looking like it was designed for a five year old.

On this, we will have to disagree.

White or Black is the only 2 colour choices they could make when trying to sell it as a entertainment device for your living room.

Not many people have a green or yellow or orange living room.

Something needing to be "sleek and stylish" is pretty silly, that's all personal opinion. Personally I wouldn't mind breaking away from the dull black rectangle packaging that every devices seems to come in these days. What's sleek and stylish about that? Sounds like the designs of a lazy sod.

So, based on PC architecture and housed in a large PC based box... Might as well call it the PC4...

I think 400 quid is a bit steep for a case.

At least we can be reassured they didn't just spend 7 years designing the case.

Hmmm a cube with some detailed bits flashed.

But is it a flat cube or a fat cube, we will see.

Well they can't release a box with rounded corners for fear of Apple taking them to court lol.

On Topic though, it's nice timing releasing a teaser since MS are showing the new Xbox off tonight.

I think possibly I saw a mouse in that teaser but will have to watch it again later when I can see it properly.

Quois?

All these gaming companies do stuff like this. Drum up your own product when a rival does something.

If anything, from a purely Anandtech/Tomshardware/Techreport/Bit-tech site reading consumer, it would appear that the XBOX is forgotten about. What with the whole dissection of the PS4 architecture on various PC sites likening it to the PC itself. I've seen a few mentions of xbox here and there, often in an article about the PS4 architecture. And there was the anaemic article about the reveal on Bit-tech.

Purely gaming sites may be different I guess, but I don't see the argument coming from a marketing perspective. I'm not bothered by either release. Just saying what I've seen. I'm sure that'll all change with the reveal though. PR will really pick up off the back of it.
