BioShock already has a mobile game and sequel in the works, but an MMO may now be planned too.
In a presentation given to Take-Two shareholders about why the company should continue to resist buy-out offers from EA a few rather interesting snippets of information have emerged, specifically that Take-Two is thinking of creating a
BioShock MMO and movie to co-incide with the planned sequel and mobile game.
Slides from the presentation were
leaked to Kotaku this morning and, while most of the it seems to be the usual PowerPoint selection of dull pie charts and even duller pie charts, there are some interesting snippets in there - namely that the publisher is considering how best to capitalise on the
BioShock franchise through other mediums.
That
BioShock will be getting a sequel hasn't been much of a secret and nor has the fact that
a mobile game for the franchise is also planned, but the addition of an MMO and movie to the line-up
is new.
Details are scarce at the moment and there seems to be little to go on other than the fact that Take-Two is promising shareholders that if it wanted to then it
could make an MMO and movie to generate huge profits, but we'll let you know more details as they energe.
Would you be excited to see a
BioShock film and MMO, or do you think the series will end up going the way of
Deus Ex - a seminal game killed by lack-lustre sequels? Let us know in
the forums.
I did love the atmosphere and the tension of the surroundings which if done well could make for an exceptional and different MMO, scavanging a living in rapture :D
The movie I am kind of inbetween on. BioShock played a lot like a movie in some ways and such could be adapted quite well to the big screen, but a lot of it, especially fighting big daddies would take a lot more effort to work well. In short, a movie could work if they put the time, effort, and money into it and not let Uwe Boll have the movie rights. Otherwise move on....
Keep it away from Roland Emmerich, Joel Schumacher, Jerry Bruckheimer and Michael Bay.
I wonder if Danny Boyle* would be willing to do it :D......

Ah yes, I forgot about 'them', lol. It really needs someone that can do "gritty" well without being over the top.
I think the threat of uwe boll is over for those games that aren't already on his books, since the loop-hole in german tax law that allowed for movies to make money by not making any at the box office was closed some time ago (though movies started before it was can still use it till they are done I believe)
A movie could be really good if it was the prequel to the game. All the politics etc would be to come across much easier than if you were to run around in a first person perspective.
I have little faith in the sequel, and cell phone games are a joke. I wish they would just leave the franchise alone and move onto something else.
As per the movie, I think it has a lot of potential depending on who might drive it !!! Maybe a Spielberg - Burton kind of a thing. It can be either a prequel, a sequel or anything that runs along with the game's perfectly tailored original story... Who ever gets involved would have to work closely with 2K so that no details get missed
