The wedding of Blizzard's lead level designer included Zelda ice scupltures and a Mario wedding cake.

It's not every day that we get to post news with even a slightly romantic twist to it so, the soppy lot that we are, we thought we'd seize this chance to post something a little bit different.

Cory Stockton, lead level designer at Blizzard, got married recently. Being a sensitive soul as well as an enormous geek, Cory wanted to leave his own mark on the wedding ceremony while still keeping the event tasteful. The solution? A games themed wedding, of course.

The Stockton wedding was a geek party like no other then, incorporating a Super Mario wedding cake, tables named after game consoles (with the head table called 'Press Start to Begin') and a Legend of Zelda ice sculpture/vodka luge centerpiece. Check out the throughly impressive pictures below.

"I actually tried to sit people at table names that matched up too. For instance we had the grandparents at the NES table and all the kids at the Wii table. I will say, the Virtual Boy table was not all that popular." Said the groom.

Apparently, Cory's wife was fine with him adding his personal touch to the event, though he freely admits it was his only real involvement and that his wife was largely responsible for organising the wedding.

Allow us to be among the first to pass on our congratulations to the happy couple and to say that the honeymoon better not take too long - that man has to get back to work on Starcraft 2 after all!

We've got a handful of pictures of the event below, so check them out and head to the forums to pass on your congratulations. While you're at it, why not let us know about any geek parties you've been to?

Well... At least he had the sense not to put "Diablo" or a "Zerg" in the wedding cake...

Damn I just got married and I so should have done that. Ours was a tropical theme since we got married in Jamaica. The last real geek party I went to wasn't really themed just full of geeks. So many of us had PCs or laptops with us a spontaneous lan party broke out. We played till we were far too drunk to game and then went for a few more hours. Fun for all ages! If you were old enough to drink that is.

Thanks to all the well wishers on my own marriage and big congrats to THE man at blizzard, Cory Stockton. I also agree that he should enjoy himself on his honeymoon but don't take too long, I want my Starcraft II!

I wonder who attended the wedding and what kind of presents did they get.

I bet you someone gave them a Wii as a wedding present - haha
