The Xbox Live demo of Bioshock is now available, as is the new launch trailer.

Bioshock is, as regular readers will be aware, a bit of an obsession for me. I think about it daily and have officially commemorated the day that Tim and I went to do a multi-format, hands-on preview of it as the happiest day of my life.

Imagine my fury then when I found out that Xbox Live, which I don't have, had just got a demo of the game.

Weighing in at 1.35 GB, the demo isn't exactly massive, but you may want to set the download going now if you want to play it this evening, which you definitely should.

The fact that an Xbox 360 demo is available has obviously annoyed some PC fans who were hoping for a non-console demo. Irrational Games (which has recently changed names to 2K Boston) is assuring fans that the PC demo will be available later this month and that more details will be available tomorrow on the official website, but there are no details available beyond that.

The game will be shipping in just under two weeks though, so there may be very little point for consumers bothering with a PC demo unless it arrives within the next few days.

In the mean time, the new Bioshock launch trailer has been flittering around on the internet since its debut on American TV last night. If you haven't seen it yet then you can check it out below.

Tried the Bioshock 360 demo? Primed your system for the minimum requirements? Ready to deal with those Big Daddies? Let us know, in the forums.

lol Doug. Just so long as he doesn't turn to the dark side and buy a PS3 when we are all saved ;)
I'm still downloading the demo at the moment via XBL, shame that everyone and his dog are downloading it as it's been going an hour or so and I've just about done 30%. I've got it on pre-order mind you, can't wait :D

Same, I pre-ordered the one with the big daddy figurine. Collectors Edition I think, there's too many available!

Hmm, at the moment I'm on the fence with platforms. I've tried both and of the two, the 360 version may have just had an edge in cinematic moments etc. Then again, at home i'd have to fight for control of the big TV. But my home PC won't run the game without some serious pimping....

TOO MANY CHOICES, JOE OVERLOAD!!

Ah if only my 360 hadn't gone and killed itself last wednesday I could have played the demo. Luckily my PC beats the recommended settings, but it still would've been nice to try it out.

Hmm, I saw the trailer on comedy central at 10 'o clock.

Pretty sweet.

I love that Bobby Darin song!

I really like how the good game advertisers are using good music in their commercials (a la Gears of War).

I only wish I had a 360...

Demo is pretty damn awesome :D Love the art deco, 19whatevers (20s/30s?) style and the atmosphere is pretty damn moody.

Possible spoilers ahead.

When I was making my way down to the underwater city in the capsule thingy I was thinking it wasn't going to be too bad and it looked all nice and happy, maybe the **** hits the fan a bit later ala Doom 3, but no, as soon as the capsule docks, I get a nasty surprise.

Just spotted this, for all those people who downloaded it and want to play it again on a harder difficulty which wasn't previously available.

I found Medium rather easy, may have been the abundance of First aid packs. But the toilets were awesome! Never had so much fun flushing.

Played the demo yesterday. Tis pretty cool, "The Darkness" style game play. Graphics looked good on a standard def TV so be even better in HD. Seems like a pretty cool sp game, but i wouldn't buy it.

/\ I was hinting towards the gameplay Arch.......and trust me I' ve played my share of FPSs on console....didn't feel natural at all....

Nothing wrong with it. THe 360 controller is great and feels so good. I hated playing FSP games on the sony dual stick.

FSP games are getting better on console and im loving it.

How are they getting any better than what they were before? It takes me 2-3 times longer to kill an enemy on console (take Resistance or GOW for example) vs. the PC using a M+K setup. I don't want to sound like a console hater because I find them enticing, but being a PC gamer I almost felt like I had to say it. Hopefully no offense taken....

you can't compare different games against keyboard and mouse.

Firstly, the only games that should be played with a controller are ones designed for it, like Halo 3, Bioshock, GoW and so on. Not ports. Ports fail miserably. Look at Darkness Multiplayer, UT series on xbox and and other port, they suck hairy donkey balls.

Because the games aren't on PC and thus don't use keyboard and mouse.

Ive been a FSP PC Gamer since the likes of Doom I/II/3, Wolfenstein 3D, Dark Forces, HL, HL2, BF 1942, BF2, BF 2142, Unreal, Unreal Tournemnat 2001, Quake, Q2, QIII, IGN, IGN 2, Soldier of Fortune 1 & 2, Counter Strike Original, Source, Delta Force, 1, 2, Black Hawk Down, Flash Point, Rainbow Six, SWAT, Star Trek Elite Force 1 & 2, Red Faction 1 & 2, Halo and the list goes on

But im finding console FSP games are getting better and more fun and im enjoying them. They become more fun now because consoles are now online, although they were online with the last generation but that was just the first stage.

Now consoles, ie 360 and ps3, are fully online, look good, play good just like PC''s. Also the PS3 will support the keyboard and mouse with unreal and it wont be long before Microsoft games support it as well, because why not? Cant be that hard to allow usb keyboard and mouse support.

Just because its on a console doenst mean you should just right it off.

You make a valid point Doug. I think my real argument is regarding ports, not games designed from the ground-up. Either way, I guess that's what makes somebody a PC Gamer or a Console Gamer: standards, and in my case I need that mouse and keyboard and that game designed for it from the ground-up.

Mike, a M+K setup with a PS3 game isn't going to be the same as with a PC game because the PS3 game would be designed for a controller with most enemies being placed more in the middle of the screen, and believe me! I was thinking the same thing you were, but just like Joe Martin said: it won't be the same experience. Also, I'm not ruling them out because I've actually played those games on console and found them a struggle, but again that's my opinion and I'm not saying that it's the same for everyone. I hope you understand what I'm getting at: that I find console FPSs harder to play than PC and less enjoyable. Again, I hope no offense has been taken. I'm just giving my opinion on the matter....
Quote mikeuk2004 17th August 2007, 12:09
I think its on the person and how well they can adapt to a different control system. If your too used to M&K then fair enough.

In the last 16 years I have played alot of M&K games on PC and joypad games on console. so I can easily switch from controler to M&K and get stuck in an is probably why I like FSP games on PC and console
