Dark Blade - ACRyan / bit-tech Mod of the Year 2006.
Dark Blade by G69T!
Well, the month has passed, and the votes are in. We had a staggering response from the modding community - over 1500 of you voted for your favourite case mod of 2006, and the contest was very, very tight.
Dark Blade won by
an edge over WMD (and knowing G69T, it was surely a very well polished, intricately machined edge). We really weren't sure until the last day who was going to win, but in the end it was a well-deserved victory for the Italian modder.
In third place was wooden wonder-mod Sangaku, by GreenSabbath.
Congratulations Gianluca, creator of Dark Blade, who wins some cash, courtesy of
ACRyan, as well as a poster made of his mod. We'll be getting on the designing of that ASAP.
We'll very shortly be picking one reader to also win some ACRyan cash, and we'll also be sending out Dark Blade posters to the
bit-tech readers - stay tuned for details on how to get your hands on those.
A massive thanks to
ACRyan for once again stepping up and showing their support for the modding community - we encourage you to check out their site and bear them in mind when you're picking up modding supplies in the future.
Also a massive thanks to you, the readers, for participating and crowning our inaugural
bit-tech Mod of the Year. Next year we'll be running the competition again - and we'll be adding a category for 'Newcomer of the Year', so if you've never completed a major mod before, get started and you could be winning in 12 months time!
Let us know your thoughts on the winner, and the contest,
over in the forums.
As has been mentioned many times before
- even to be in the running is a GREAT compliment to ones modding skills.
And thank you to the bit-tech staff for kepping this great site going. ;)
To all of the rest of yous out there, happy modding 2007
Great mods no matter who actually won.
Hope to get the poster.
It doesn't matter who won to be honest because all the mods are amazingly good.

Don't know if I'm alone on this one
genius on this project. Even for those without access to CNC it still throws
the guantlet down for all of us that strieve for better. Great work Giamluca
and hats off to the voters in saying so.
The top 3 were all scratch builds but we've already discussed this topic in the contest discussion thread.
Great job G69T. You definately deserved it.
Gian some days ago told me that he will be proud to be in the fist 3 place... And now is the winner! Great work, as I told you a lot of time!
I hope you get one cool poster out of it, because you deserve it. Thanks for the months of interesting reading, bud. :)
Is there going to be a front-page project log?
....OMG, it's incredible!
Dark Blade Mod of the Year 2006!
I would like to thanks everybody for your preferences and my congratulations to all the others fantastic mods. Thanks to Bit-Tech and AC Ryan for this great opportunity.
Gianluca
first gratz to G69T, well deserved
secondly, stop splitting hairs does it really matter what the difference between "mod" and "scratch build" is, i thought it was meant to be about quality of work, dedication, style and the like
What a mod , the rest was very impressive too.
They all BIG TIME
I realise that has already been discussed in a previous thread but that is entirely my point; scratch build and mods are two different things although they ultimately have the same purpose. I didn't mean to be pedantic though, lol.
By the way ;) Great work G69T, I followed that worklog pretty closely and am in awe. Can't wait for your next project.
Great design and ideas.

See you soon to the next work log.
One day I did a google search for best pc case ever. That led me to an article about Dark Blade which led me to Bit-Tech and its modding forums. One of my favorite forums out there.
I personally dont think scratch builds and mods should be separated. Everyone starts with the "idea" of the standard case (and the standard computer parts in it), and mods (in their mind) that idea into another idea. How that idea becomes form is not as important as the creative vision.
The only thing I would consider cheating would be if the final result was not a working computer.
And a special congrats for the winning case, by G69T, masterfully done!
Maybe next year there should be multiple categories - Best Newcomer; Best Scratch-built case; Best Modded case.. That way even more top projects will get recognition..
I can see problems distinguishing between scratch-built & modded cases tho'
Great suggestions! Many of the top-ranked were built by people with the money to scratch-build, and then it's them who get more money - bit daft if you ask me. Competitions should have the disclaimer (like Ready Steady Cook ) that it's the best with what they had (/ could afford).
