Mod of the Month - April 2010

It's been a crazy month here at bit-tech. We've had a major site refresh (which looks awesome), some of us got stuck abroad because of the volcanic ash cloud and we also had to say goodbye to Richard 'Bindi' Swinburne who is now our man in Taiwan. It's also been an interesting time in our forums and we've had a tough time picking just six projects to feature in our Mod of the Month. We've got old hands and new comers too competing for our attention and 2009 Mod of the Year winner oldnewby is hard at work with a new project too, so you definitely don't want to miss out this month!

We've also got a project that's trying its hardest to look like a Ferarri, something else for all you watercooling enthusiasts our there as well as several scratch builds of various shapes and sizes which are sure to whet your modding appetites.

Don't take our word for it though - take a look at our project log and modding forums. Don't forget about our modding section either. where we regularly showcase many of the best mods with in-depth walkthroughs from the makers themselves.

Our sponsor for Mod of the Month is Quiet PC who kindly supply the goodies. They'll be giving the winner the choice of one of these three great prizes every month:

Scythe Kama Connect 2 USB2.0 IDE and SATA External Adapter

The Scythe Kama Connect 2 is an incredibly handy gadget designed to allow you to connect SATA and IDE hard drives quickly and easily to any PC using USB. It is compatible with both 3.5in and 2.5in SATA and IDE hard drives, as well as any other IDE device such as an optical drive. The ability to quickly plug-and-play any hard drive gives you a quick and easy way to access your files or transfer them from one drive to another without needing to open up your PC.

Scythe Mugen 2 Quiet CPU Cooler

This processor cooler is an example of Japanese engineering at its finest! Scythe’s Mugen 2 Quiet CPU Cooler is designed with five fin towers for improved processor cooling by up to 7 degrees C compared with the original Mugen, which itself was one of the best on the market. As you would expect, it is multi-socket compatible for Intel and AMD and comes with full instructions.

Zalman ZM-MFC1 Plus Black Multi Fan Controller

Zalman's ZM-MFC1 PLUS is a simple fan controller which supports up to six 3-pin fans. This provides the user with total control of the installed fans. Each channel is capable of altering the supplied voltage from 5V to 11V, with 5V able to quieten even the loudest of fans. As well as a reduction in noise, lowering the voltage also reduces the airflow.

So, a huge thanks to Quiet PC and make sure you take a look at their website which is full of cooling and modding related stuff. Well done to all the nominees last month too. It was PC-Beto by p0Pe which claimed the prize with a fantastic glowing green acrylic PC. We were lucky enough to catch up with p0Pe and cmd_, whose NPGP-A01 came in second place last month, at Campus Party Europe, so check out our coverage of that for some cool videos. Finally, here are this month's nominees - make sure you vote for your favourite!
