BETA by Gtek

Project Log: Here

He's already given us two fantastic projects this year in the form of ULTRA and CUBO but it looks like he's not quite packed up his modding tools yet for 2010 as Gtek started yet another project in August. In true Gtek style, BETA is already insanely eye-catching too and has recently started to take shape.

The half-egg shell side panels that give BETA its unique shape were made using Styrofoam, cut and sanded to shape.

Each panel has its own block of foam which is cut out of the fibreglass shell once it has dried. It's a pretty messy process but is a relatively foolproof way of making fibreglass objects in nearly any shape you want.

Straight off the top of the foam, the fibreglass shells weren't up to Gtek's high standard. Despite adding another layer of fibreglass, things still weren't smooth enough so he employed some body filler and repeatedly sanded this down to achieve the desired effect.

Work has also started on the chassis which Gtek is making out of Aluminium. One very interesting addition is the huge 180mm SilverStone Air Penetrator fan in the front of the case. BETA is looking like a fascinating project and given Gtek's proven track record when it comes to making awesome projects, this is definitely one to watch.
