Mnpctech launches new modding video series

The series will feature news, tips and tricks and even a scratch-built PC from Mnpctech

US-based modding store Mnpctech has launched its own web-based series of videos, called Mod Men, which includes news, tips and tricks for would-be modders. The bit-tech Mod of the Month sponsor gave us an exclusive interview prior to the launch today, which precedes a bi-weekly airing on its YouTube channel.

In short, there'll be modding tips and tricks galore, along with industry insight, product reviews and they're even building a PC case from scratch. We caught up with Bill Owen of Mnpctech for quick chat about the forthcoming series.

'The webisode series follows my PC modding business, Mnpctech,' said Mnpctech's Bill Owen in an interview with bit-tech prior to the launch of the series.

'Imagine an "American Chopper for Geeks", but without the reality show nonsense. It is important that the show appealed to everybody. I enjoy sharing guides for beginners and pro-tips for hardcore modders so everyone who's interested in modding should find them informative.'

The series will even feature familiar mods built by bit-tech regulars such as Cheapskate, whose new scratch-built watercooled PC will be seen in the series.

'I'll also share my most popular advice for cooling mods, aesthetic mods, do-it-yourself custom paint guides and tricks over the span of five episodes for season one,' continued Bill. 'I also get into the best tools for individual applications, ranging from very affordable hand tools to the more expensive professional equipment. We have so much material that already looking at doing season two.'

The videos will air every other week on Mnpctech's YouTube channel, as well as on the new, official website, Modmenshow.

Check out the trailer for the series below, then let us know your thoughts in the forums.

MNPCtech's customers are american. Doesn't mean they can't do awesome art deco or minimalist builds, it's just people don't order them.

I'll be watching. Whatever Bill does is just bursting with enthusiasm, and cheaps is the
cherry on top. Besides, whether it's 'how to make a jet engine' or 'Mega factories' or
even 'myth busters', I love watching people make stuff.

Good luck Bill, cheaps, et al.

Well there is every other tacky tv show out in the US saw one about some guys who buy old lock ups so I'm not suprised there is a Modding one atleast it should have a couple of interesting bits.

more interested in that tank at the end though only looks like a 3D concept though :( boooo.
Waynio 2nd February 2011, 09:27 Quote
I'm not a member on youtube but it's in my favourites I'll look forward to watching these shows :D.
Should be a real TV show imo & I hope it gets that far but then again maybe network goons would tell you all to behave in a way that isn't yourself & turn it to garbage lol :) it would surely be 1 of my favourite shows if you guys had full production control :D;).

Off topic but seen Attila comment & clicked on the New in his sig & read it all, been wanting to say holy sheet dude I just looked at the begining of your new worklog, amazing & very inspirational for the DIY modder as always :D.

(Mrs Krabappel enters room)

Today's lesson is "Media Exposure 101 for PC Modders"

If you don't have thousands of dollars for marketing, you will have to do outrageous things to gain the attention of mainstream media, which has insatiable appetite for Tacky.

Can anyone here give me an example of Tacky?

Cheaps -"My old Pea Green Dodge Van with Purple window tint"

Thats a good one, but we're talking about PC Mods. Let me show you some examples of Tacky...

(turns on overhead projector)

1st image is a PC Mod with WWII German theme and MP40 machine gun for carry handle. "Although it's executed nicely, this PC Mod is very Tacky and leans toward controversial, depending upon the viewer"

2nd image is the size of a shoe box and is covered with rust. "I don't know what this is supposed to be, but it's beyond Tacky and could be breeding ground for Hepatitis."

3rd image is

(somebody unplugs the projector)

That concept looks awesome & looking forward to seeing it pulled into reality ;), is cheaps the designer for that or a joint effort.
Cheapskate 2nd February 2011, 21:31 Quote
@Bill- How did you remember my van?

I don't see how #3 is tacky. If I had stuck with the full Beetlejuice-style idea from the start, it would have been much wilder. -Think clear red and deep purple with lots of points and curls.
...Then there's the previous design, which will go unseen.:) This is VERY tasteful in comparison.

@Waynio - I drew it up, Bill asked for revisions, and there were many hours of concept talk.

I'm really excited for this one, i used to be a regular on the mod nation. Having met Bill once (I went to the system install party for project "Spirit of Dragon & Tiger") I can tell you he is the perfect guy to do a show like this.

What? No pressure there.:)
I guess it works out in my favor. Once GG is finished, I'll (almost) have more computers than uses. This way I can still come up with stuff and get to see it built.

At some point, I'd like to build something that could be auctioned off for a charity.

Can't say I've actually seen a mod done purely for charity so don't know, if you do this though get word as far & wide as possible so it gets noticed before actually doing it, would ideally need to make the news or at least news websites even, I suppose then I really think it could be very successful.
