Eager beaver PC mod unveiled

Who wants a cuddle? Just don't ask where the on switch is!

This has to be one of the most controversial mods we've seen in a long, long time. Wired reported this morning that eager beaver case modder Kasey McMahon had succeeded in incorprating a decent rig into a new chassis...formed from a stuffed beaver.

The beaver houses a 2Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 1Gb of RAM, DVD writer and 160 Gb HDD on a AOpen motherboard somewhere inside its hollowed out corpse.

The mod has provoked strong reactions in the modding community with some admiring the creativity and the humour of placing the 80mm fan in the animals backside, while others condemn the macabre mod as being cruel and depraved.

From a purely technological point of view, we have to admit we're impressed. It's been a while since we had a close look at any forest animal - confined as we are to our desks - but we imagine that it must have been a tight fit.

I'm sure he didn't kill the beaver just to stick a PC inside it, so it would have been dead anyway.

I like the originality.

i think it would be more appropriate to mod a pc into a penguin if you were gonna install linux

FYI #2 and #3, I think the modder is she.

Pretty twisted idea, I don't know if I'd like to have a dead animal on my desk, but got to admit it's kinda funny. There's few things that could've been done better IMO. First of all the fan in the back... Really I have no clue what beaver skin and fur is like, but I guess it could have been hidden somehow, now it doesn't kinda look right.

Gotta admit that's pretty funny. Who knows the lady could just be a computer/animal lover and wanted to have both? Anyone read the story of the family that stuffed their family labrador retriever and placed him next to the fireplace?

A female modder - Not common, but certainly not unheard of.
An extreme female modder - Well, I suppose it had to happen eventually.
An extreme female modder accomplishing a first in the world of computer mods - I'm sure a bold statement regarding the equality of the sexes is in here somewhere.

I think this is pretty cool. I don't see what people would be upset about. You can find stuffed dead animals in stores and hunting shops. Beaver trapping is pretty common. I doubt someone went out and killed a beaver just for the sake of a computer mod.

I would say its disturbing as all creation if someone went out and killed an animal just for a computer mod, but like I said, I can't believe that being the case here.

So with all that being covered: This is an awesome, unique, and really kickass mod. I mean the Supreme Commander Mod goes to one extreme (It's f'n huge!) and this goes in another direction. (Small and furry maybe?)

So what have we learned? Never under estimate the creativity and resources of a modder. (I am suddenly reminded of seeing wooden computer monitor housings and keyboard enclosures... Maybe that's part two of this mod? ;) )

Maahhhahhaaahhaaa, great, I'm loving it :)

Just looking at the damn thing makes me laugh, awesome idea. For some reason this mod really made my day.

Also it must have been quite hard to fit all that stuff inside it. Well at least you don't need CNC equipment with this material :D

Hats off to Kasey for making this happen, quite macabre, but there are worse ways of using corpses of dead animals in the world, at least it has form and now function ;)

I think for my next case mod I am going to take a cadaver from the morge and mod a system inside of it. Wouldnt that be awesome!

I will stretch out the cadaver's mouth, anus and urethra and stick 120mm fans in them, wont that be hillarious...

I will have to agree with DreamtheEndless about the modder being female. I am not sexist by any means but this just isn't somthing that you see at all.

Also agree with previous posters not understanding what the harm in this is. Only thing i can think of would be PETA b***hing about it.

Kasey is the next modder's infatuation, coming as the newest member of a short line of females who have wowed us and made us look at our dremels and feel somewhat smaller... Like the chick that made her PC into a working fishtank, and the one on the old PimpRig that made the watercooled Trigun case...

However, none have had her sense of humor. Can I get married twice?

It's hardly macrabe, the beaver was long dead before she got her hands on it and stuffed with foam, she even got it delivered in the post!

I think it's pretty wicked actually, if utterly utterly bizzare. Good on her!

I've gotten a pretty good idea now what to do when my girlfriends pet rabbit dies, LOL,

But i like it, its always nice to see a female modder stick a computer in her beaver....., and yes, it's also a good thing that bottle was half empty, probably because that beaver smelled very bad when cutting all that foam out of it, or just to get creative and find solutions to modding problems, god knows it always works for me.... ;)
