Wii controller port mod

Wii controller port mod

Spangly.

Have you gotten fed up of having to muck around at the back of your Nintendo Wii every time you want to plug in a wired controller?

Do you long for some 4-player Gamecube controller action, but can't be arsed pulling out your home entertainment system all the time?

How about just making your Wii a little more snazzy with some blue lighting?

A chap called hollowfreak has pulled apart his Wii, created a new white plastic housing and re-routed the control ports to the front - making for plug-and-go action.

It also has the side effect of making the Wii about double the height which, in the Cheap Ass Gamer forum thread, avoids the problem of a small Wii - "My Wii was so small next to my xbox and ps2 that I was getting an Inferiority complex," says hollowfreak.

There are pictures of the creation process with the wiring and circuitry laid bare, and there's no doubt that the final thing looks pretty nifty. Let us know your thoughts over in the forums.

Surely it's not that hard to flip open the top and plug in a GC controller?

i second the motion.

yes bright blue LEDs are cool and all that however they do not look good everywhere, especially pointed right at the user. i learned this when modding my CDROM light about ten years ago with a blue LED. since my computer was on my desk it was cool for about 5 min; then i had to put some electrical tape on the thing.

also you said in the article that he modded his wii :|. he didn't change a thing about the wii's basic construction. he just made a dock for the wii that puts the GC controller plugs in front. personally i think that it looks pretty frappy, but thats just me. if i was really in to GC games still i would get a Wavebird and just do away with all the cords. just my $0.02 :D

Looks pretty freaking cool in my opinion. I don't see why you guys are bitching about it all. In all honesty, does it really matter how the system LOOKS if it is practical and plays well?

I can see where he's coming from - our Wii sits under the TV, along with 3 other consoles, a DVD player and freeview box. Plugging in GC controllers means pulling out the Wii...

It's a nice idea, but doesn't look too hot.

Personally, I'd just invest in some Wavebirds and have done with it!

I just keep my Wavebird reciever plugged in all the time. Never have to worry about plugging anything in. The only downside is that I still have to get up and go to the Wii to turn it off since your not able to wireless turn the system off once in GC mode. (That's going to always be my gripe with the GC portion of the Wii)

Doesn't look very good IMHO, they should make VC pads that run off the Wii Remote ports.
