Cooler Master has announced a new family of power supplies for system builders on a budget: the MasterWatt Lite range.

While there's no hiding the fact that Cooler Master's new MasterWatt Lite family is aimed at the cheaper end of the market - the range tops out at 700W, for starters - the company claims it hasn't cut any corners. Each model in the MasterWatt Lite family includes active power factor correction (PFC) and pulse width modulation (PWM) which combine with a 'dual-forward topology' and double electromagnetic interference (EMI) filter to improve efficiency and ensure output stability, says Cooler Master.

The supplies also enjoy certification to the latest Energy related Product (ErP) requirements, which translates to a guaranteed power draw in standby of less than 0.5W under normal conditions. Power-on efficiency, meanwhile, is rated at higher than 82 percent at 20 percent load, higher than 85 percent at 50 percent load, and higher than 82 percent at 100 percent load - enough to get 80 Plus certification, though admittedly only at the very lowest White ranking, below even Bronze. Each includes a single 120mm temperature-controlled hydro-dynamic (fluid) bearing (HDB) fan, claimed to be quieter and more durable than the usual ball-bearing models found at the cheaper end of the market.

The MasterWatt Lite family is, Cooler Master has announced, to launch at retail in the next two weeks, and will be priced at £39.99 for the 400W model, £44.99 for the 500W model, £54.99 for the 600W model, and top out at £64.99 for the 700W model.
