Lian Li is ditching its trademark brushed aluminium for steel in a new range of cases aimed at the system build on a budget: the Lian Li Ebonsteel family.

As the name suggests, Lian Li's Ebonsteel range is made from steel and finished in black. Initially, it will comprise three models: the PC-K5X, an ATX/mATX chassis featuring two removable drive cages, support for four 3.5" or 2.5" hard drives, seven expansion slots, and graphics cards up to 250mm long with tower coolers up to 160mm tall; the PC-K6X, which builds on the PC-K5X with support for a total of seven hard drives, covered drive caddies and power supply area, and allows for graphics cards up to 330mm in length and CPU coolers up to 170mm in height; finally, the PC-K6SX takes the PC-K6X and adds a hinged from panel and sound-damping foam inserts to drop the noise level down.

In all cases, the Ebonsteel family is being made exclusively in a black finish - a change from Lian Li's typical approach of offering at least two finishes per case type. Buyers will have the choice of purchasing windowed or windowless variants of the PC-K5X for $56 and $60 respectively, while the larger PC-K6X will be priced at $93 or $109 for the PC-K6SX sound-damping model. All cases in the range are due to launch in June, Lian Li has stated, though formal UK pricing and availability has not yet been disclosed by the company.
