ASRock has seemingly jumped the gun on announcing support for Intel's upcoming Broadwell-E processors on X99-chipset motherboards, revealing product names and confirming specifications ahead of any official announcement from the chipmaker.

In an announcement that it had released firmware updates for its X99 motherboard range to enable support for Intel's upcoming enthusiast-centric Broadwell-E processor range, ASRock revealed four Broadwell-E chip names: the Core i7-6950X, Core i7-6900K, Core i7-6850K, and Core i7-6800K. Embarrassingly, each of these has yet to be officially announced by Intel - and while we've seen these part names leaked previously, this marks the first time then have come from an official hardware partner in a formal press release.

In the same announcement, ASRock confirmed rumours that the top-end Core i7-6950X chip will be a bit of a beast: the processor will, the company has stated categorically, include 10 physical cores and HyperThreading support for running 20 simultaneous threads. The company did not leak specifications for any of Intel's other upcoming Broadwell-E parts, though earlier unconfirmed leaks have the Core i7-6900K as an eight-core 16-thread chip with the Core i7-6850K and i7-6800K making do with six cores and 12 threads.

ASRock's firmware updates for its X99 motherboard range are available now from the company's official website.
