Cooling specialist Scythe has announced yet another new version of its Grand Kama Cross CPU cooler, now in its third revision and boasting significantly boosted performance.

Based, as with its predecessors, around a top-down design claimed to improve the cooling of motherboard and peripheral components, the Grand Kama Cross 3 shares the same overall cross-structure design but replaces the centre two 6mm copper heatpipes with 8mm versions. Combined with tweaks to the manufacturing process claimed to increase the efficiency of the heat transfer betwix the pipes and the copper coldplate, all of which are now nickel-plated, the company claims the new model offers a noticeable performance improvement.

The tweaks don't end there, either: the two angled fin blocks now boast a saw-tooth tread design which Scythe claims lowers airflow noise at higher fan speeds and reduces air resistance for another performance boost. A 140mm GlideStream fan is pre-installed on the cooler, offering 29.9-97.18 cubic feet per minute (CFM) of airflow at noise levels between 12.5 and 30.7 dBA.

Finally, the new design boasts an improved backplate-based mounting system supporting all the latest AMD and Intel sockets. Claimed to be both more secure and easier to install than its predecessor, all clips and screws required for the new mounting system are bundled with the heatsink along with a spanner, screwdriver, and thermal grease.

The Scythe Grand Kama Cross 3 is available as of this week, priced at €36.50 excluding taxes, with UK pricing and retail availability yet to be confirmed. More information is available on the official product page.
