SilentiumPC announces Fortis 2 XE1226 cooler

The Fortis 2 XE1226 is designed to cool high-TDP chips at an affordable price, offering a bundled near-silent 120mm fan and support for a second if required.

SilentiumPC has announced a new CPU cooler targeting the budget-constrained buyer who nevertheless has a high-wattage rig to tame: the Fortis 2 XE1226.

A medium-size tower cooler, the Fortis 2 XE1226 uses a pure-copper base linked to six 6mm U-shaped heat pipes - a combination the company refers to as its XE Technology, for marketing reasons. A single DF12025 120mm fan is included as standard, pushing air through the heatsink's aluminium fins with a claimed noise level of 22dBA at its peak 1,500RPM speed and offers PWM control; this can be augmented with a second fan in a push-pull configuration using bundled mounting clips.

The tower heatsink measures 130mm x 95mm x 155mm and weighs 0.88kg including fan. Its relatively compact design, the company claims, makes it compatible with a wide variety of cases offering at least 185mm clearance. The Fortis 2 XE1226 offers compatibility, as you would expect from a heatsink launched in 2014, with all recent AMD and Intel socket types including AM2 and AM3, FM1 and FM2, LGA 775, LGA 1366, LGA 2011 and the closely-related LGA 1150, 1155, and 1156.

Although SilentiumPC has claimed the Fortis 2 XE1226 will be suitable for gaming and overclocked setups with a high thermal design profile (TDP), it has fallen short of offer actual figures for the maximum wattage the heatsink will be available to efficiently cool. It has, however, confirmed that the heatsink and fan will include a 24-month warranty as standard.

UK pricing for the Fortis 2 XE1226 has yet to be confirmed, with SilentiumPC setting a €29.90 European recommended retail price (around £25.) More details are available on the official website.
