Supermicro and Nvidia recently announced they'll be joining forces to offer Nvidia GRID server solutions, and currently you can get 50% off the list price.
Supermicro's 1U Nvidia GRID solution.
Although GRID has the potential to be used for gaming applications, these servers are meant for remote acceleration of professional software such AutoCAD, Bunkspeed, PTC Creo and Insight Earth, for those working in virtual environments.
The deal caught our eye as currently the servers are half price, though at £6,299 (RZ01240i-NVK1) and £8,009 (RZ-1240i-NVK2) they're still very much a high-end offering.
Split into two tiers, each offers two Intel E5-2680 Xeon processors, 256GB of RAM, 2 x 240GB mirrored SSDs and 4 hot-swappable 2.5in bays with the big difference between the two being the RZ-1240i-NVK1 uses two Nvidia GRID K1 GPUs while the RZ01240i-NVK2 uses two Nvidia GRID K2 GPUs.
Each server can accelerate the workloads of between 4 and 32 users depending on the intensity of the task. More information on the Supermicro Nvidia GRID servers can be found here
Supermicro also recently entered the consumer motherboard market with its Z87-based Supermicro C7Z87-OCE
. It focuses on Supermicro's server-oriented strengths, offering reliability and stability, rather than overclocking potential. However, we've been told the company is looking to enter the space more aggressively over the coming months, where it will hopefully provide even more competition to the established names.
