Apple hints at new iPhone launch date with 10th Sept event invites

The iPhone launch invite suggest the new phone/s will come in multiple colours.

Apple has seemingly confirmed the launch date of its next iPhone after sending out invites to an event on 10th September.

The event will, as per tradition, be nearly exactly a year since the launch of Apple's last phone, the iPhone 5. However, unlike previous launches the big rumour this year is that Apple will be launching not just a new premium model, expected to be called the iPhone 5S, but a low-price version too.

It is this so-called iPhone 5C that is being seen as the reason for the emphasis on colour in the invite, which features the words "This should brighten everyone's day" written below a cheery arrangement of colourful circles.

Rather than the traditional black or white of previous iPhone's the 5C is expected to have a plastic back available in six colours - white, black, blue, pink, green and yellow. It may also replace the iPod touch as the cheaper portable player option.

Surprisingly little else is known about the specs of either of the new phones, with reports only vaguely talking of the iPhone 5S featuring a quad-core processor and improved camera. It is, however, expected to sport essentially the same physical design, which for those that found the iPhone 5 rather scratch prone will be something of a let down.

Both the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C will run the new iOS 7 operating system that was unveiled at WWDC earlier in the year. This update marks the biggest single change to the OS since the iPhone 3G, with a complete revamp of the look and feel of the OS. The new flatter, colourful style has divided opinion so far but it's possible Apple will have tweaked things further for the phone's launch.

If last year's launch is anything to go by, the iPhone 5S release date will be 20th September, the second Friday following the announcement.

May not see a release on the 10th, but hopefully an announcement of the date. (20th?).

iOS 7 is pretty stable now, with only a few issues remaining. Can't tell you what they are though.

Perhaps the iPhone will be released in multiple colours but the real Apple will not introduce a cheaper one. If they do it will be a huge second step - after the first small one with iPad mini - down the pan.

Shocking, let me guess they are going to launch a new phone, again, the same time next year. A little predictable that they release a " new " phone almost every year and very often don't change much between them. Got to give them credit where it's due, they will sell a ton of them every time.

I don't really know what you want from them? A microwave attached?

I don't think I have come across anyone who actually understands Apple in every day life.

Actually they may aswell launch a cheaper version, as a lot of people currently buy the older iPhones in order to be able to afford it. If there was a cheaper option, Apple could phase out the older hardware and not support them for as long.

It'll have iPhone5S or 5C on the box instead of just iPhone5 ;)

You are right though, the changes in most don't warrant a change of handset. Although, iPhone5 brought about the change in socket which made all accessories redundant unless you also picked up one of those adapters that just don't look right on your dock.

Already have, all iphones include a innovative microwave antenna

With Samsun's Gear watch, I'd love to see an iWatch.

Compared to LG, Samsung, and other brands that release at least a half dozen new models a year.

I'm curious about the screen frankly. Size and resolution.

I am guessing the 5C will essentially have iPhone 4 specs (not 4S) with dual-core, using the older retina resolution, and camera, refitted with iOS7 and priced at 75% the new 5S. I am basing this on the iPad Mini specs and pricing.
