Steve Jobs returns to work after medical leave

Steve Jobs has returned to work at Apple after taking medical leave in January for a rumoured liver transplant.

Apple today confirmed that Steve Jobs has returned to work after taking medical leave in January, with his first job for the Mac-maker being to celebrate the first million iPhone 3GS' being sold in a public statement.

"Customers are voting and the iPhone is winning... With over 50,000 applications available from Apple's revolutionary App Store, iPhone momentum is stronger than ever," Jobs said in a short statement about the iPhone 3GS.

Apple has repeatedly said that Jobs was expected to return to work at the end of June, with the above statement apparently marking the start of his gradual return to full duty according to The Telegraph.

While the official reason for Jobs' medical leave was stated as a simple hormone imbalance according to Apple it's been long-rumoured that there are more pressing health concerns which haven't been fully disclosed due to Jobs' private nature. While the Wall Street Journal claimed that Jobs had undergone a liver transplant two months ago nobody close to Jobs has been willing to go on the record about the topic.

While Tim Cook took over at acting CEO of Apple in Jobs' absence, Steve Jobs has been kept up to date on the company and has been involved in all major strategic decisions.

Glad to hear that Jobs is back on form? Let us know your thoughts on the forums.

"fully disclosed due to Jobs' private nature" - ridiculous; who wants the world to know they are about to die if they don't get some poor sods organs? (If true, he never showed 'jaundice' (sp?) if his liver was failing)

Jobs had to RTM because his liver died and there were no user serviceable parts without voiding warranty?

He may not be a well man, but the guy is still a genius, and I for one am glad that he's back. He's only human, but he's one of the best things to happen to Apple.

Get well Stevie - Mac nuts everywhere are rootin for ya.

The following is ripped blatantly from The TechReport
Quote:
I heard he rejected the first eight livers as being too big, too slimy, and not in keeping with the overall design aesthetic he's worked so hard to develop. He then demoted the first surgeon and has him working on a record-keeping project in the basement.

The eventual winning organ is a custom unit serviceable only at authorized iLiver facilities.

Darn, and I was just going to joke: Who says that you can't upgrade an Apple? :p

He wouldn't have shown jaundice unless he was really close to dying. Unless you have pics of him lying in bed at hospital looking perfectly healthy, a liver transplant is still probable.

Liver transplants tend to work. I wonder why they'd have any reason to keep it secret - it's not like the guy's had a penis transplant, fer crying out loud. I know two people who're running on someone else's liver, and they're both fine - one of them's running around hauling film equipment on and off of trucks for a living.

doubt it, hes been more of a figure head then actually of any use for the company, he was nothing more then a good business man, he really didnt have much smarts nor did he actually design or create anything significant, he was just great at stealing and swindling people out of their creation and calling it his own, anyone who argues that ehh whatever look it up you can see it for yourself.

Oh ok, so the fact that Apples share price plummeted roughly 10% when it was announced he would be disappearing was just a coincidence then?

Basically yes. Stocks, shares, and all those things are based on speculation of what the value could be not on what its actual worth is. He is important to apple, not as a person progressing the tech, but as their savior. If you got news that the person, who single handedly saved your company from going under, was now going to be gone, you would be freaking out to. That is why share prices drop.

EDIT:
http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/06/24/liver.transplant.priority.lists/index.html
So it looks like it was his liver.

You have contradicted yourself.

Either its a coincidence ... OR ... the share price plummeted because the news came out he was going AWOL.

I already know the answer which is why I gave HourBeforeDawn a flippant reply.
