EVGA investing in Intel with new P55/X58 boards

EVGA investing in Intel with new P55/X58 boards

EVGA will launch some cheaper and smaller X58 boards as well as hardcore P55's.

COMPUTEX 2009: At Computex this week, we caught up with EVGA to see its new graphics and motherboard bits. We've already shown the single PCB GTX 295, but what about EVGA's continued commitment to Intel motherboards with Nvidia SLI?

For the first time, EVGA boards will feature dual, or even in the highest end products - triple BIOS. There will even be a selection feature allowing the end user to chose which BIOS to boot from.

The P55 boards will have a pulsating central logo - a touch that EVGA claims Foxconn copied since it originally featured it on the EVGA X58 Classified board - but other than that it's a pretty standard looking feature list: we can expect to see only six SATA II ports, a couple of eSATA (non-powered), and three PCI-Express x16 slots. Despite having three graphics length slots, only dual-GPU SLI is supported, with the third slot allowing a third graphics card to deal with CUDA/PhysX work.

The power hardware also takes a leaf out of MSI’s book and uses the “DrMOS” all-in-one power ICs that EVGA claim (like MSI) affords a far better power density for the size. Of the two P55 SKUs, the cheaper one will have a simpler six phase design, while the more extreme version has a hefty 14 phases and two 8-pin EPS power sockets, though using the second one is not necessary for normal operation, for those applying some serious voltage to their hardware EVGA recon two is needed. In addition for the extreme P55 board, the CPU socket also has ceramic capacitors in the centre to aid smooth power provision. For now the rest of the features like SATA and PCI-Express, they are much the same.

In terms of X58 boards, EVGA has two on the way: the SLI LE which is aimed at under $200, and a micro-ATX model too that still squeezes in SLI support (as you'd expect).

Fancy a new EVGA motherboard to go with those graphics? Let us know your thoughts in the forums.

I-E-D: EVGA is the 3rd in this... DFI and Asus got it many months ago...

I think MSI have one too

I was going to say, my Rampage Extreme has it, and that is far before X58 (at least in computer terms).

The little EVGA Plate on the P55 destroys the color coding..

Am I right in thinking there are no pictures of the P55 board(s)? I think I can see X58 branding on all those pictures.

Read that again and tell me what's wrong. :p

Color mix in the top left picture is awful. Other than that, sounds interesting but I bet before I consider building a new PC [Christmas] there'll be a lot more mainboards to chose from.

Check out the ports on the back of that board, looks like it means business.
