Are Crytek trying to port Crysis or Farcry to the PSP? Somehow we doubt it.
Not long ago
Far Cry developer Crytek warned PC fans that because of the huge amount of piracy it had experienced with
Crysis the company would no longer be PC exclusive.
Still, we didn't ever imagine that the company commonly held as Lord of the Polygons would move to the PlayStation Portable as a viable platform.
According to a
positing on Crytek's official website though, that's exactly what the developer is now looking to do and whatever the PSP game is that they are working on it'll be coming out of the company's Budapest studio. Unfortunately there are currently no details available about what the game could be - but we doubt it'll be
Crysis somehow.
Crytek is also currently working on a PlayStation 3 game too, which may or may not be a remake of
Crysis for consoles, so it seems that the company has forged strong relationships with Sony. Whether that's just because Sony has got the beefiest consoles on the market or because of an exclusivity agreement remains to be seen however.
The PSP is seen as an odd choice by many fans though, given that the reason Crytek is avoiding PC exclusives is because of piracy. The PSP itself has a healthy homebrew scene still going on and, if we're going to be brutally honest, that seems to be one of the main things supporting the PSP as a handheld console right now.
Have we got the PSP figured wrong, or are Crysis the fools of this court? Let us know what you think in
the forums.
I believe Far Cry is held by Ubisoft.
I have one, and stopped looking at the games section for PSP a long time ago. Useless rubbish library. My friends who have PSP's dont buy their games at all. I was amazed at how they had cracked versions of everything I had previously bought.
But its a decent media player for downloaded movies/tv shows.
Crytek guy1: the PC platform is full of piracy, we have to get into console platforms so we can survive, consoles have 0 piracy, any ideas guys?
Crytek guy2: maybe the PSP, it is amazing cool and is a console, so it has no piracy.
Crytek guy1: GREAT IDEA!!! *aproved*
i have yet to see one person that has a psp and 1 original game.... some of them have the game that came with it, the rest is all pirated and some only use it to see videos and hear music.... or something to collect dust at home.
Aye, but I was looking at it from a technological perspective.
That's the attitude that's taken over, but it's not quite true. There are some good games out there, but not many developers have tried to make interesting games for the PSP, so it's nearly been abandoned now. It seems most people just use them for playing homebrew/converted PSX games/cracked ISO's of PSP games. Shame... :(
Having said that I've just restarted FF7 on my PSP, and I'm thoroughly re-addicted. :D
Good point.
NGage was so bad I forgot about it.
Gizmondo?
