Windows XP SP3 hits RTM

Microsoft has announced the release of Windows XP Service Pack 3. The release schedule follows the rumours circulating last week.

Microsoft’s Chris Keroack, Release Manager for Windows XP SP3, revealed yesterday that the software giant has released the third Service Pack for Windows XP to manufacturing.

This news means that the rumours that were circulating last week have turned out to be true.

Today we are happy to announce that Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) has released to manufacturing (RTM),” said Keroack in a statement on the TechNet forums. “Windows XP SP3 bits are now working their way through our manufacturing channels to be available to OEM and Enterprise customers.

We are also in the final stages of preparing for release to the web (i.e. you!) on April 29th, via Windows Update and the Microsoft Download Center. Online documentation for Windows XP SP3, such as Microsoft Knowledge Base articles and the Microsoft TechNet Windows XP TechCenter, will be updated then. For customers who use Windows XP at home, Windows XP SP3 Automatic Update distribution for users at home will begin in early summer.

Keroack didn’t reveal exactly when MSDN and TechNet subscribers would be able to download the software, but we expect it to be soon. The rest of us will have to wait until next week to get hold of it.

Are you still running Windows XP and, if so, are you looking forward to SP3? Let us know in the forums.

Hurrah! When was SP3 supposed to be released? I thought it was late Q3, early Q4?

Maybe I'm being a tit. :)

nice to see MS still supports older products, unlike nVidia! (all their beta leaks only support 9 series, wtf?! )

to me, it makes sense to support XP if Vista is 64bit only, but MS is has pointless put out 32bit Vista, and at the same time, still provides support for XP. me thinks they should ditch Vista 32bit.

Looking forward to SP3, should have been done years ago. It will be nice to slipstream in the 120+ updates that came out after SP2 for a more painless install :) I plan to use XP until doomsday, and I hope SP3 is a quiet admission of MS that people still love and want XP and will never get Vista, and should support us too.
