Apple updates Boot Camp for Vista

Now Apple Boot Camp does Windows Vista.

Apple has updated its Boot Camp software, adding official support for booting Windows Vista.

Whilst some pundits claimed that the new version of Mac OS, numbered 10.5 and codenamed Leopard, would be delayed to implement Vista functionality, that clearly isn't the case.

There's support only for 32-bit Vista, no 64-bit, but there are a few other things added into the release. There are numerous driver fixes, including added support for the iSight webcam and Apple Remote, the universal white bit of plastic shipped with FrontRow-enabled Macs, Apple TV and Apple HiFi.

There are also driver updates for the graphics chips (including Intel integrated) and audio drivers.

Taking a leaf out of the Parallels book, there's now a 'Boot Camp Tools' icon in the system tray, to allow quick access to fiddle with the cross-platform functions.

If you're running a Windows Mac, or want to get started, you can grab the latest software, which is still in beta, over here. Let us know how it works for you over in the forums.

kind of off track -- but has anyone seen the new mitchell and weblock mac adds?? like "I need many different programs to watch my video, listen to music, view my images" and "I use iLife"

HOW!! are they NOT going to get sued for this? MS did it, and had to remove Media Player and pay huge fines -- how are Apple doing it differently ...

And -- other than using an EFI bios -- what stops you running OSx in VMWare?

Does that mean we can game on a mac through Windows? Would that have even worse overhead than playing on OSX (provided the game supports it)

Yes performance was pretty poor compared to a PC of similar spec. I can't remember where I read about the testing though; it could have been on another forum.

I don't think I'll ever convert to Macs. Even with all the graphics work I do I never saw any advantages to the Intel Macs (PPC was a different matter) so I'll stick with Windows. Linux still has some uses for me but I don't see the advantage of OSX for me.

Microsoft need to make Windows be able to run OSX. If they do that.. I think it'll be the death of Mac unless Mac reduce pricing severely
