Laptops reach $1m price point

Laptops reach $1m price point

The $1m laptop. Not the $100 laptop. Don't get confused.

A firm in London has started production on what has to be the most expensive line of laptops in the world.

Luvaglio prides itself, we are told, on its attitude to bespoke luxury goods. In an interview with GizMag (pronounce that as you will), Luvaglio's CEO explains that

"Many claim to produce luxury goods but we believe that the true element of luxury is having something that says "YOU", that money can't buy."

So what makes this laptop so special? Well, there's a 17" screen which is LED backlit. Storage is 128GB of solid state flash, whilst there's a slot-loading Blu-ray writer. And, of course, the diamonds. Luvaglio tells us:

"I didn't want us to simply re-house a laptop into a diamond studded casing, or diamond encrust the entire thing simply to make it expensive. We've put thought in from the keyboard down to the power charger. There is an integrated screen cleaning device and a very rare coloured diamond piece of jewellery that doubles up as the power button when placed into the laptop and also acts as security identification. We have used diamonds elsewhere but have given them purpose."

Obviously.

Well, if you're rich enough to afford one of these bad boys, I suspect that you won't be looking to hack it apart and perform some mods. But anyone fancy having a go? Let us know your thoughts over in the forums.

Hmm ... sad thing they're so exclusive they won't even release decent images of their product ... :(

Anyways, never would I want such a thing, but I sure would want to be able to want one

pointless and stupid.
The rate at which hardware depreciates and becomes obsolete, it will be worthless is a few years...only the diamonds they put on it will remain in value.

I think if you're going to buy one of these, you're not the kind of person that cares about depreciation ;)

A total attention-grabbing PR exercise, no?

Although I do like the removable power button/security key ;)

Their website is invitation only FFS.

What an absurd idea. I hope they go bankrupt.

One million dollars!? That's just stupid.

Makes Apples' range of laptops seem quite reasonably priced...

I don't know, when I was in Los Angeles a couple years ago there was a news article about a dumpy mobile home in a park overlookoiong the water selling for a million. Doesn't go very far in some markets anymore.

I agree, all the details are vague - just the $1,000,000 soundbite.

There's even less details about Luvaglio Plc, a quick search at Companies House shows their address and that they're a pretty recent startup.

Anyone in London want to go and have a look.

Seems like a bit of a scam to me. Googling the CEO, "rohan sinclair luvaglio":

Confidence inspiring? I think not.

or if you're spending that on hardware alone, create a rackmounted computer cluster.

sample shopping list :)

30 or so Dell 3007WFP monitors
1 or 2 Nvidia QuadroPlex VCS nodes
5 or more 8-Core Servers (1-2 windows boxes, the rest a linux beowulf cluster)
at least 30TB of RAID6 storage
the power bill.
T3 line

now; which of the two options is better? :D

Rich people will buy anything no matter how stupid it is as long as it's expensive and gaudy. Case in point: One of my old customers has a life size (as in, the pieces are 5-6 feet tall) frog warrior chess set in his back yard next to his $600,000 pool. He owns a company that supplies syrup for about a dozen different kinds of soda companies. His two nephews are each worth $90,000,000. He takes care of them now because their mother (his sister) was killed in 9/11. Her estate was split 50/50 between her kids.

They are 7 and 10 years old.

You ever see a driveway with a basketball hoop in it with an old truck tire or something on the base of the pole to try and keep it steady? Normal, right? This guy has a Ferrari wheel sitting on his kids basketball pole.

He's one of the less-wealthy people living on that street.

So, you see, a million bucks is just chump change to some people.

Sickening, right?

Only decent thing about the whole deal is the Solid State Drives.
