Sapphire has dual-chip 1950

Massive.

Filling in the lull to R600, Sapphire has been giving the press a preview of its X1950 Pro dual-GPU card here in Vegas.

The card has two chips on the same PCB, joined by a separate bridging chip, and 512MB of memory for each chip making a total of 1GB.

It also has a CrossFire connector on the top of the PCB to allow two of these cards to work together for some Quad action!

The card is expected to cost somewhere in the $300-400 range, which seems fairly reasonable. It's absolutely massive, far longer than an 8800 and much, much taller. If nothing else, it's certainly a talking point!

Also on show was a very funkily passively cooled X1650 XT. This looks like being a great card for those who are freaky keen on avoiding noise in their system. It also has a HDCP chip, which means it could be good for HTPCs.

Do you fancy some quad-chip 1950 action? Let us know over in the forums!

Ooooh momma that's tempting, £250-300 for one of those would be a nice upgrade, just a shame it's out not long before R600...

Did they show any results of Quad action?

Well, they may not have the performance crown at the moment, but they sure have the "Too Big To Fit In 90% of Cases" Award :p

Jesus Christ!

Would you look at the size of that thing!

It extends the pci bracket by a good 1"/1.5" and must be at least a foot long! I think this is just more of a 'party piece' for sapphire than any thing else. I mean many people are struggling to fit the 8800GTX behemoth in their case, let alone this monster.

that thing is huge!!!!! it is power in a huge package.... i prefer the 8800 = power in a smaller package + DX10 :D

HUUUUUUGE! The heatpipe design looks quite funky though.. if you have the right case for it..

-ed out

If this had come out earlier, it may have had some success, but with 8800s, R600s and its size, I don't think it will have much appeal, but it is cool! I like the look of that x1650xt though!

As gravemind said, if it had come earlier, but when I next get a graphics card, it will be a DX10 part.
Quote HourBeforeDawn 10th January 2007, 04:22

Quote Paradigm Shifter 10th January 2007, 10:46

Is there any word on if driver support for quad-crossfire will be released at the time this card is?
