XFX unveils first overclocked GeForce 8800 GTX/GTS

XFX announces the world's first overclocked GeForce 8800 GTX and GeForce 8800 GTS cards in limited quantities.

XFX has announced the world's first overclocked GeForce 8800-series video cards, with XXX versions of both GeForce 8800 GTX and 8800 GTS.

The top-end GeForce 8800 GTX XXX Edition is overclocked from the standard 575/1800MHz clocks to a pretty decent 630/2000MHz, while the GeForce 8800 GTS XXX Edition has been overclocked from 500/1600MHz to 550/1800MHz.

NVIDIA's GeForce 8800 GTX set the world on fire with its blistering performance at the start of November, and was probably the most anticipated video card launch over the last few years. If you haven't had the chance to check out our 8800 GTX review, it's definitely one that you shouldn't miss!

Up until now, it seemed like NVIDIA was preventing its partners from overclocking GeForce 8800-series video cards. Earlier this week, sources close to OCZ suggested that the company would speed screen its upcoming GeForce 8800-series video cards and leave the tweaking to the end user without voiding their warranty.

Both of XFX's new XXX Edition GeForce 8800-series cards will be available to buy at Scan in limited quantities over the coming days. The 8800 GTS XXX Edition is listed at a reasonably respectable £364.11 including VAT, while the 8800 GTX XXX Edition is listed at a stomach churning £528.61 including VAT - forget donating your kidneys, this puppy is going to cost you a limb.

while they are very good overclocks, whats the point. they are already the best cards in the world, have no probem with any game at all why overclock them. so you can get 200fps instead of 180

I suspect there will be improvements at 2560x1600, but that isn't going to affect most people :)

I hate pre-OC'd cards.

The oc's always suck, and a three year old could do better.

actually something i forgot about, the stream processors. i guess even xfx havent got the equipment to overclock those yet.

i knew XFX would be the first with the XXX series, theyre not pre overclocked i don't think.. They're factory set to those speeds. But i think evga will wipe XFX's floor with their "superclocked" version when it arises =P

pre-overclocked is the same as setting increased factory speeds. ;)

I don't like how they change the PCB from the reference card black to green. Well more pre overclock cards to come. I waiting to see what bfg overclock there watercooled edition to.

Nice cards, but..

My Asus 8800GTS clocks gpu 500@650mhz and ram 800@1015mhz (2030 if it's doubled?) and i run 3dmark06 just fine.
I run it at gpu 500@600 and ram 800@950 on the everyday basis, just to be sure it runs nice and steady.<

So I can't really say they are pushing the pre-oc cards that high :\

I read recently that it overclocks the stream processors when you overclock the core anyway...

Yes, but there's no detail on how far they're overclocked in comparison to the core clock when you increase it. All that we know is that it's overclocked at the same time - I'm not sure whether it's a linear overclock or whether it's a logarithmic scale, or some other entirely different clock scaling. :)
