We've already heard that Kentsfield, Intel's Quad-Core Extreme Edition gaming chip, has been brought forward from 2007 into 2006.

However, we now have some more apparent clarification, thanks to the chaps at Eweek. They are saying that moles in their camps suggest that November will be Kentsfield time.

This would represent a rather drastic shortening of lead time, meaning we could be enjoying quad-core goodness in the run up to Christmas.

There are also rumours, from separate sources, suggesting that its Xeon equivalent - Clovertown, quad-core for servers - will also be released in a similar timeframe.

No news yet on a firm release date for AMD's 4x4 platform, which will incorporate two dual-core chips on one motherboard via two discrete processor sockets.

Hungry for quad-core? The wait is almost over - get drooling with us over in the forums. Bring your own towel.
