Intel gets Yonah under 9W

Intel's new U2400 is under 9W.

DailyTech has the skinny on a new Yonah-based mobile processor that has a power consumption under 9W. That's teeny.

Intel already has the U2500, which is a 9W 1.2GHz part. The new U2400 comes in at 1.06GHz and consumes less than 9W, although we don't know exactly how much. It uses a 533MHz FSB and has a 2MB shared cache. It's expected to go on sale in September for around $260, and notebook vendors like Dell and Samsung are expected to be using it in uber-teeny machines.

Although Yonah is sort of on the way out now, it's clear that there's still some life in it. As Merom is introduced next month, we're sure to see the new Core 2 Duo architecture pushed down into the super-cool chip range. That will surely give us some awesome new chips.

Now if only ATI and NVIDIA could produce something as effective for graphics cards, we could end up with some ninja ultraportable notebooks. We can but dream, eh?
