The new Dell XPS notebook, in red and black.

Dell has launched a new version of its popular XPS gaming laptop with NVIDIA's new 7900GTX mobile chip integrated.

The mobile chip has 512MB of dedicated graphics RAM. The machine also has Intel's Core Duo processor inside at various clockspeeds (depending on price) and 2GB of DDR2 memory.

Storage is catered for by a 100GB SATA drive and a dual layer DVD writer.

The machine has a 17" screen with a 1680x1050 resolution, although we suspect that that can be upped to 1920x1200, as with the preveious generation of the XPS.

Like its predecessor, it also has rather funky lighting on the back, which this time can be strobed between 16 different colours.

One has to think - with laptops like this, who needs Alienware? Perhaps not Dell.

The top-end model costs $4155, with no word as to UK pricing yet. Interested? Let us know your thoughts on the new kit over in the forums.
