HD-DVD titles are delayed until mid-April

HD-DVD is due to arrive on March 28, with titles soon after.

Warner, the major studio promoting the HD-DVD standard, has confirmed that its first wave of HD-DVD films will not now be released on March 28 as plans, but rather on April 18.

The move means that when the first next-generation players arrive on the shelves - Toshiba has a model out on the 28th - there will be nothing to play on them. Awesome.

Warner also announced that it is cutting back on the number of titles it will release in the first wave, with there now being just three - Million Dollar Baby, The Phantom of the Opera and The Last Samurai.

Another 17 titles will be released over the coming weeks, including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Batman Begins and that old favourite from the early days of DVD, The Matrix.

Who remembers listening to the Wachowski classic in home 5.1 for the first time? And then, every time you had new mates round you had to put it on to show off? Yup, us too...
