Creative labs has plans to incorporate some of its X-Fi technology into future MP3 players.

We were previously immpressed by Creative's surround-sound-over-stereo-headphones technology in our review of the X-Fi card. Now Creative wants to bring that to its portable MP3 players. We were given a demonstration using a modified Creative MuVo player containing an upgraded processor to cope with the extra work of handling the decoding.- although this was an early developement prototype, the effect was very impressive.

The final production models will also incorporate Creatives "Crystalizer" technology to improve the sound quality of MP3's.

Is surround sound on the go a gimmick or a good thing? Let us know your thoughts over in the forums.
