Gateway has released a new high-performance series of PCs that can be kitted out with high-end components, including Intel's Pentium Extreme Edition 955 processor and NVIDIA's GeForce 7800 GTX video card.

The computer is designed for computer enthusiasts desiring a hassle-free PC for advanced digital entertainment hobbies and high-end gaming. There are three ready-to-ship configurations, along with the option to specify your own system specifications too.

It looks like all configurations come with Windows XP Media Center Edition and a one year limited warranty. The FX510S comes with a Pentium D 920, 1024MB of DDR2 memory, 250GB of storage and a GeForce 6600 128MB. The second system in the lineup is the FX510X - that one comes with two 160GB hard drives in RAID 0, a DVD writer, a GeForce 7800 GTX and a 19" LCD monitor. All other components remain the same.

The top-end pre-configured system is the FX510XL, which comes with a faster processor: the Pentium D 940, along with 2GB of DDR2 memory, 1TB of storage (2x500GB in RAID 0), a DVD writer, a GeForce 7800 GTX, an ATI Theater 550 Pro TV tuner and a 21" widescreen TFT monitor.

The systems are aimed at the same kind of people who'd buy Dell XPS branded systems, so it's slightly questionable whether they're targetted at true enthusiasts. I guess the term could be used fairly loosely though, as build your own enthusiasts are often termed hardware enthusiasts.
