Apple is putting the finishing touches to its plans for the opening of its second UK retail location, this Friday.

The store, located in the refurbished Bullring, in Birmingham, will be giving away goodie bags and tshirts to its first customers, who are expected to be queueing up overnight to be the first through the doors.

However, journalists will get a sneak peek on Thursday night, with a select few publications invited by Apple to go and take a look at the location, which joins Selfridges as one of the prestige brands Birmingham has successfully attracted.

OSX version 10.4, codenamed Tiger, will be on sale at 6pm in both the Bullring and the Regent Street Apple Store, in London. It features a revolutionary new search technology, called Spotlight, as well as a library of easy-access 'Widgets' - mini applications that will float on the desktop.
