There is a generally accepted rule of thumb which holds that films based on computer games are universally awful and vice versa. It's a rule which has a few exceptions (Advent Children wasn't that bad in my opinion) but is true for almost all film/game crossovers.

The only upcoming movie based on a game which we are even vaguely excited about is the Prince of Persia movie, which could possibly be just a little bit awesome.

Still, Hollywood never seems to learn and the news from Variety is that a director has just been named for a new Street Fighter movie.

First, the bad news: its a Street Fighter movie.

The good news though is that the director is none other than Andrzej Bartkowiak, who's nickname must be "that unpronounceable dude". Andrzej is responsible for quite a few good films, including Romeo Must Die, Cradle to the Grave and, yes, Doom.

We're going to go out on a limb here and risk some credibility by saying that we didn't think that Doom the movie was that bad, especially when compared to the gameplay-lacking Doom 3 game.

The new Street Fighter movie is apparently going to be based around Chun-Li and her "journey for justice", though its unclear whether it will be an official sequel to the first film starring Jean-Claude Van Damme. Let's hope not.

Looking forward to the film already or do you think this could be worse than the Postal movie? Are you glad that Uwe Boll isn't involved, or do you actually like his films? Let us know in the forums.
