Amazon yesterday extended its “Prime-Exclusive items” initiative to games, meaning that several games, including PS4 editions of GTA V, Rainbow Six Siege and Assassin’s Creed Syndicate are now only available to members of Amazon’s Prime service.
Not a Prime member? You’ll now see a box with a blue border on the right of certain game’s pages that identifies the item as Prime-Exclusive and will not be able to add the item to your basket.
Videogamer.com broke the story first and reached out to Amazon for comment, who delivered the following statement: "One of the many benefits of Amazon Prime is access to exclusive selection on a number of great products. Customers who are not Prime members can sign-up for a 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime, or they can purchase those items from a Marketplace seller."
Amazon later removed the Prime related restriction on the products during the day yesterday, before reinstating Prime-exclusive purchases. Amazon haven’t revealed anything further. An Amazon Prime subscription for the year costs £79, and provides access to Amazon’s video streaming service in addition to one day delivery. For those who just want to spend money on games, it may be time to look for an alternative.
