Seems like a good day for Blizzard release date news. Blizzard unveiled their third full-sized expansion pack for Hearthstone, Whispers of the Old Gods, a little over a month ago, with the rough timeframe of “late April or early May”. The developer has now come forward to deliver an exact date.

Apparently we’re still playing the “divided by oceans” game, so the dates are a bit flexible. If you’re in North America or Europe then you’ll have access from Tuesday, April 26th. If you’re in Asia, you’ll have to wait an extra day until Wednesday April 27th.

Whispers of the Old Gods is bringing 134 new cards to the game, all themed around the idea of a corrupted version of Blizzard’s Hearthstone universe. This means the classic Ancient Healbot is now a Corrupted Healbot, dealing 8 damage instead of healing. There are several other cards out there, each with fun twists on what you might have come to expect.

Around half of the new cards have already been revealed, but not in play, meaning the deck builders and the pros haven’t been able to try out some of their theories yet, but what they have mentioned is four ancient evils which you can build an entire strategy around.

Whispers of the Old Gods is also wiping the slate, rotating pretty much every card from the last two years of updates out of the game, meaning there’s a big storm coming to Blizzard’s meta.

I still play Hearthstone daily, and I was lucky enough to play the new expansion at Blizzard’s headquarters last month, but even I couldn’t say how this is going to effect the competitive Hearthstone scene.

Packs for the expansion will be sold just like the others in Hearthstone, for 100 in-game gold or purchase in bundles for real money. Players can currently pre-purchase the expansion for $49.99 for 50 packs, but this offer will vanish with the expansion’s release next week.

Do any of you guys play Hearthstone? I’m still obsessed after 2 years, playing it several times a day as a good break from work. Let me know some of your favourite decks.
