Classic space-based RTS franchise Homeworld is getting a re-release in the form of The Homeworld Remastered Collection, launching on February 25.

The collection will include remastered versions of both Homeworld and Homeworld 2 as the title implies, but also the original two games as well for anyone wanting to revisit an old favourite in its unaltered state.

Homeword and Homeworld 2 have seen significant overhaul in terms of graphics, audio and even gameplay mechanics at the hands of Gearbox. A multiplayer mode has also been developed which merges both games together but this will still be in beta with the launch of the collection as it is not currently in a state that the developer is entirely happy with.

The Homeworld Remastered Collection will be available on Steam for £26.99 with a pre-order special offer making it £22.94 until February 24.

Gearbox picked up the Homeworld franchise from THQ during the now-defunct publisher’s insolvency IP auction. The original Homeworld was released in 1999 and it got an expansion pack a year later in 2000. Homeworld 2 followed in 2003.

Another game in the series is currently being developed by Blackbird Interactive in the form of Homeworld: Shipbreakers. The game originally started out as a spiritual successor being developed by members of the original Homeworld team, but Gearbox allowed Blackbird to use the Homeworld IP to make it official.
