New tracks have been released for Rock Band 3 and Rock Band Blitz on Harmonix’s Rock Band DLC store, the first update in approximately two years.

Three new tracks added to the store-front include R U Mine by the Arctic Monkeys, Shepherd of Fire by Avenged Sevenfold and Something From Nothing by the Foo Fighters.

The update goes live today on Xbox 360 and tomorrow on the Playstation 3 and are on sale individually.

Whilst updates to the Rock Band store were once a common occurrence and hardly worth a mention, the game’s weekly release schedule was brought to a halt in April 2013, with Don McLean’s American Pie being the last additional song to hit the platform. Prior to this, the studio had managed to issue new songs for 275 weeks in a row.

At the time, Harmonix made it clear that its weekly releases were over but did not say that they would never again add new songs, stating that if the ‘right band and the right opportunity’ came along they would release more content. The decision to move away from such a gruelling content calendar was made so the studio could focus its resources on other projects.

It is unclear whether the update to the Rock Band store means there are more regular updates on the way or if this indicates that Harmonix might be about to release a new Rock Band-related project.

The original Rock Band was released in 2007 and was the first of its kind to include a neighbour-angering drum kit and microphone in addition to the plastic guitar peripheral that had been previous established by genre pioneer, Guitar Hero.

Harmonix was also the original developer of the Guitar Hero series, before that was moved over to Neversoft by publisher Activision.
