The latest patch for Assassin’s Creed: Unity on Xbox One downloads the entire 40GB game instead of just the patch due to a mistake made in deployment.

The issue affects the fourth major patch that is intended to address more of the many issues that Unity launched with. Before the error was spotted, the patch was already a 6.7GB download.

’We apologize that many of you will have to wait longer than expected to complete this download,’ said a Ubisoft spokesperson. ’We are working with Microsoft on a solution to reduce the total download to the intended size so that you can get back into the game faster.’

Ubisoft does not have any idea when this issue might be resolved but does confirm that other than the very large download size, there are no other issues with the patch itself and once the download completes, Unity should be fully up to date.

The patch itself tightens up performance and stability of the game and seeks to resolve drops in framerate, crashes and lost progression as well as tweaking in-game navigation and lock picking. Online connectivity, matchmaking and the companion mobile app have also seen tweaks in the patch.

Assassin’s Creed Unity launched in November and has built up a reputation for having a miriad of hilarious bugs, including the notorious ‘no-face’ bug. The game received generally positive criticism, although many commentators lamented the removal of the pirate ship from Black Flag.
