The Trine franchise has broken the 7 million copies milestone in sales according to developer Frozenbyte.

The sales figures were drawn together for both Trine and Trine 2 across the PC, Mac, Playstation 3, Xbox 360, Wii U and Android versions.

To mark the milestone, Frozenbyte has released the level editor that is compatible for both titles in the series. This is the same tool used by the developers and will allow players to mod the game and publish those mods on the Steam Workshop pages for Trine and Trine 2. A wiki with guides as to how to use the editor has been started up to help users along.

‘We've reached a higher userbase than we ever thought possible,’ said Frozenbyte chief executive Lauri Hyvärinen. ’Opening up the games to user generated content is something we've wanted to do for a long time, and we're thrilled to see what people can come up with using the Editors.’

Additionally, Trine Enhanced Edition and Trine 2: Complete Story are both available for free on Steam this weekend as part of a large free weekend that the digital distribution platform is running. The games will also be offered at an 80% discount for anyone who wants to add them to their Steam library permanently.

Frozenbyte’s next project is an iOS-based platformer called Splot about a one-eyed blue alien which is due for release on October 23.
